My 57 currently has Uniroyal Tiger Paw Touring Edition 215.65.15 redline radials (with a cool "SSE" molded in the redline). They were originally made for the Pontiac Bonneville SSE in early 1991. I'll be driving cross country next summer to Monterey from Florida and I really don't think it's smart to do it with 10 year old tires, so it's time to start looking for replacements. My car has had 1954 Buick Skylark Kelsey-Hayes 6" wire wheels on since about 1963. I have no rubbing problems at all. I have but two requirements; the same size redline radial, and nothing from Coker. Anybody have some sources or advice?

Bill;
Why no Coker's?
I was going to order tires from them for a 59 show car, any info?
Tnx.

Cokers are fine (IMHO) for a show car but I don't feel that they make good tires for regular road use. (OK, this comes from some second hand stuff but I've been in and driven quite a few Corvettes and those with Coker tires just didn't seem to perform as well.) Just my opinion.

69er,

I've been to the Diamondback site and it looks very promising. Do you have any experiences dealing with them?

Don't know anything about them other than they advertise on My Classic Car tv show on TNN and their tires are made by Dayton which Firestone owns now and Cooper.
I was about to buy a set of 255/60/15 red lines but decided to put the $650 in other areas like a new radio and speakers.
My tires are in good shape but I want those dam redlines.
Maybe over the winter.

Cheep.

OK, so they might be a tad skinny...not much, though!

69er,

Have you seen the new line of BF Goodrich tires with a color stripe (stripes) in the tread? They come in blue, too!!

Not on the sidewall though

No Bill i haven't seen them.

A follow up on those redlines.

I called widewhitewalls.com and asked who makes the 245/60/15 red lines for them.
They said all their tires are made by Dayton.
Dayton Daytonas.
Firestone owns Dayton.
BUT...they buy blackwalls and add the redlines!
There's no writing on the redline side.
The redlines are guaranteed and have the factory look.

Just not for me!

I guess Coker only makes a true redline but only a 75 series.

69er,

The BFG tires are called "Scorcher". Found 'em on the Tire Rack website but they do not appear to be available in 15"; 16", 17" & 18" with your choice of blue, red or yellow stripes! (Gotta get a petition for 15"!) Ah, well, it was worth a try. Thanks for checking out the Diamondback tires. That's probably the route I'll go.
