can 255/50/17 tires be safely mounted on a 17 x 9.5 z06 replica rims?

What other tire sizes can I fit on these rims?

You could probably stretch a 255/50/17 onto the wheel, but the optimum size for that wheel is 275/40/17.

Nope, just trying to make sure I don't do something stupid. I love the look of C5 Z06 Wheels on a C3. I've seen a couple of guys do this here on the forum and I really like the look.
Have already bought replica Z06 wheels 17 x 9.5 - 54mm backspace. I'm trying to get as close to the stock tires that were originally on this car 255/60/15. 255/50R17 seem to fit those dimensions fine.
I'm just worried I'll compromise the integrity of the tires by mounting on such a wide rim. Any help and/or advice is greatly appreciated. It's been 10 years since this C3 has seen the light of day. Hope to have her on the road for the Skyline drive fall leaf tour.

265/40's come stock on our wheels. Most guys run 275/40's because there are so many more options available in this size. I don't see any problem with downgrading from the stock size by only 1 cm.

I have a set with Kumho XS 295/35R17 and on another set I have the same size Hoosier A6's for autocross. Both fit like they were made for the wheel!

Someone posted a picture with 245's mounted on the 17" Z wheels and they did not look too bad. I think you would be fine with 255's.
