C2 Wheels & Tires: Upgrade Size?
Hey All!
I have a 66 equipped with 215/65 15 tires in the front and 215/70 15 on the rear...both on a 15x7 wheel. I am looking to upgrade to a performance tire and new wheels. I've been on the phone with multiple tire & wheel "pro's" and it's difficult to get a real solid answer on fit. It seems that I can fit a 17 x 7 inch wheel with 225/55 17 tire without issues with rubbing or hitting the fender lip over bumps and while turning hard.
Does ANYONE out there have any advice or experience on this issue?
Thanks to all,
-B

I seem to recall, from my "teen-aged" years, that the guys in my neighborhood, who had C-2s, used to say that a G70-15 was about the widest tire that you could squeeze under the fenders...and that was assuming the body was "centered" on the frame.
I know that there aren't many, if any, tires that are sort of tall (to look proportionally correct), yet narrow enough to fit in a C-2s rather small fenderwells......Maybe a 215/60/16 (if there is such a size)???

The 215/70-15 & 225/55-17 are the same height. The 225 is about 1/2" wider. If the wheels have the same backspacing, or offset, i dont see why they wouldn't fit. Now the 215/65-15 is 3/4" shorter in diameter for the front. So to match that would be a 225/50-17
