Tire size help.

Tire size help.
Front tires I have 265/35/18, rear I have 295/35/18. Can I go with a 305/35/18 in the back? One of my buddies was saying that I wouldn't be able to do that. Or should I stick with the 295 in the back? I'm only buying rear tires for now. The front ones are fairly new.

I have a C5 coupe with Z06 wheels & I run 275/40/17 in front and 305/35/18 in the rear. No rubbing issues at all.
