Default What's with the black wheels trend?

I don't get the black wheels thing. To me they're ugly, and they look like normal wheels that have just been neglected and are dirty. I guess I'm just old school in thinking that wheels should be chrome...

I totally agree. I don’t get it either. Maybe some don’t like to polish their wheels!

It isn't bad enough that many new vehicles are coming with black wheels, I've also noticed a lot of guys are putting them on their C5s too. IMPO, it just destroys the looks of the vehicle...

I have been using darker wheels on all of my vehicles in the last 6-7 years, ( gun metal, flat black/ aluminum, gloss black/ polished lip, metallic black, black chrome..on approx 8 cars/trucks)

Is it a trend ? No
Is it my OWN personnel taste ? Yes

I think ugly *** chrome wheels ruins the modern look of the C5...chrome is really dated..that's my taste...but I don't think i will start a thread about it....

Purchase wheels that you want and drive it, it does not matter.

Just my $0.02 worth.....

Tires are always going to be black. Combine them with black wheels, and you have two "black holes" in the side of the car. That doesn't look good, at least IMHO......ESPECIALLY with a black car.

Although I'm not a huge fan of chrome, I think it really depends on the color of the car... lol I love my black wheels. I'll be upgrading my stock wheels with some black HRE wheels soon.

My man! - Can't wait to check it out once the wheels are on

I've never had a problem with black wheels, in fact I feel that using black on certain wheel styles almost feels necessary to get the right look. Ultimately though, everyone has their own opinion on what they feel looks best, it's not on us to judge anyone for it, but I will say that putting black wheels on a black car is not ideal. Black on black tends to make the car look so monotone that I don't notice the wheels, I don't notice the body lines of the car, sometimes it just gets so washed it's boring, but then again, on the right color car, and the right wheel style, it could look perfect. Here's one of my favorites, the Classic 300 with a Gloss Black lip and Satin Black center. These really get me going:

Black wheels come across as though the person is trying to hide the wheels....chrome makes them stand out and really makes the whole car pop...

Some like blondes some like brunettes. I personally canít not stand chrome on sports cars. My c5z has all black CCW classics (avatar) . My 2014 Silverado has oem polished wheels, I like them they work with the white truck. My track Acura Integra has silver wheels.

I have black wheels with the red stripe on my 16 Coupe. I like the look. My GS has chrome wheels. I liked them both.

There are some colors with which a nice gloss black wheel just looks better. Chrome for the most part is outdated - itís like walking into a house with brass light fixtures & door handles, just looks dated on most cars. On Orange cars Iíve had chrome, silver, gunmetal & gloss black. To me the gloss black makes the orange pop. When I look at this picture of my old Camaro SS those chrome wheels are a real eye sore. But back then most of the black wheels were flat black with chrome lips which I personally think looks awful, so I stuck with the chrome. Two of my current vehicles have gloss back wheels where the other has machined face with black pockets which goes well with that vehicleís silver metallic paint. To me black wheels on a sports car/ and in my case a Jeep say the car means business. 😁

I don't get the "dated" comments. Chrome is timeless and beautiful. Besides, we are talking about a 20 year old design here (C5), it's not supposed to look like it just rolled off of the assembly line...the C5 and chrome wheels is an excellent marriage...

The wheels on that Camaro are ugly because they're ugly wheels, not because they're chrome...

I disagree. Chrome to me looks dated. I "de-chromed" my Harley's back in the day, couldn't stand the way it looked.

My 02 Z is Millennium Yellow and has chrome wheels. The chrome really washes out the yellow, and is the next thing I plan to change out. Maybe not blacked out, but at least the natural color stockers.

Now, with red or blue Vette's, I think they look better with chrome wheels. With bright colors like yellow or white they don't mesh well.

all in all thats one of the best things about aftermarket parts/ wheels etc. you get to make your car your own and unique.
