Default Wheel Backspacing Question

I have searched and actually found a lot of information. But also some confusing. Hopefully this will be a quick thread and easily answerable.
Currently I have the 15" aluminum 8" wheels with 255/60/15 on my '79. Which If I'm understanding have 4" backspacing. So... If I went with a 17x8" wheel with 4.5" offset & +1mm offset will the wheel sit deeper into the wheel well by 1/2"?
I'm trying to come up with a wheel/tire combination that will be a no brainer in fitting and also have close to the same height, which 255x50x17 tires would give me.

As always thank you much

Because of the trailing arms and the parking brake cable bracket on the arms, you're limited to a wheel with 4 " backspacing, on the rear of 63-82 Corvettes. You can relocate the cable bracket, and gain a little room, but without spacers or going to offset trailing arms, 4 inches is about the maximum backspacing for wheels on your 79.
