Default Tire Selection - Owner Feedback Please!

My 13 Z06 Z07 will be going to Katech this spring for their stage 2 HCI build and some other goodies. I also have staggered HRE P40SCs 19x10.5 and 20x12.5 on their way. Have been spending an inordinate amount of time trying to decide on a tire selection. I want a great tire to have all that performance meet road, but not a tire dedicated to track / dry pavement only.

My preferred choice would have been the Michelin PS4S but they have less than ideal sizing for the staggered wheel setup I will be running. I would have to go with a 325/25 r20 rear which is a bit narrower than I would like and don’t want tire stretch on a 12.5” rear and a 295/30 r19 up front which is a bit wider than I would like.

As mentioned above I am not interested in a track / competition only tire. Looking for a good street setup that doesn’t mind cooler New England days and has decent wet traction.

After hours of reading posts and test reports across the boards I have narrowed my selection down to two different tires. The odd part is one is an all season and one is a more dedicated summer / performance tire. Both are offered in the sizing I want: 335/25 r20 and 285/30 r19

1 - Michelin AS3+ ZP:
Reading all over that while this is marketed as an all season tire, that it has great grip under street conditions. Easy to get heat into the tires. I like that it is a run flat tire and peace of mind that comes with it and that it falls in line with what GM engineering designed the suspension around. I love that Michelin is made in USA. Only real con I can come up with is they may be a little noisy and they don’t look quite as nice as other performance tread patterns. Tread life is better than the more track dedicated PS offerings but still not great.

2 - Continental Extreme Contact Sports:
Lots of guys saying grip well but just as with AS3 - not a track tire. Have good tread life and ride quality given non run flats. A bit better tread look but sidewall won’t be as square as the Michelin’s. Main con which is subjective is the fact they are not a run flat. Lots of arguments that non run flats perform better and equally as many that they don’t. Perhaps also a little more forgiving on wheels - I do unfortunately live in an area with low quality roads. Not made in USA.

Both tires are near identical in price.

Would love some feed back on those running either of the two tires above.

Thanks guys
Rob

The Continental Extreme Sports will have more ultimate grip once the tire gets warm. On the street, that's not something that happens very often so that is why you see a lot of owners prefer the AS3+. But if you're in the Northeast, I'd go with the Michelins. The slight amount of warm dry grip you'll give up to the Continentals is outweighed by the increase in cooler dry grip in my opinion.

I ended up going with the Continentals.

Will be happy to provide feedback once the car comes back from Katech and I have some seat time to anyone interested.

If you drive aggressive (ramps/curves at mach 1 enough you hear the tire sing), keep a close eye on the tire pressure and the alignment.....Conti's shoulder will wear fast

Continentals on back order with rears not expected until May - car goes to Katech in April so went with Michelin PS4S 275/30 19s and 325/25 20s. Will report back on them this summer after some miles logged.
