GM does a nice job giiving you room to access them, you need 10mm long and short 1/4 inch drives , a swivel for a few, trim removal fool for the christmas tree fastners(dont pry too hard) and a fuel line disconnect for the emissions hose quick disconnect
Drivers side rear is the worst to access you have to slide under some hoses to access.
Removing it was easier than the air intake ....11 ft lbs to reinstall
Somewhat related, but I’m planning to remove the IM and have a chop paint it. While there, I was asked if the valve covers could be pulled and painted too. I may try, but not sure if its worth the effort….

Valve covers look like a pain to me so I skipped that.

I didn't want different colored valve covers either. I'm thinking of painting mine with VHT aluminum engine paint in their satin finish so it looks like an aluminum intake manifold.
Let us know how long the removal and re install takes.. and hardness level for a DIY on a 1 to 10 scale with 10 being hardest.. curious about this myself, thanks
This process is a 4 of 10 at most difficulty. PIA rating is closer to 8 of 10.
Took 6 hours (roughly) the first time and 2 hours end to end the second time (following Brandon's direction video above).
Much easier than replacing the intake, but would replace the intake and TBs while youre there (youre already doing the work). If hi flow cats or cat deletes are your thing, this would be the time as well.
I used hand tools the first time, but the Milwaukee impact wrench used by Brandon is what i ended up huying and it saved me hours of work.

Anyone can access GM Service Information (GMSI), the web-based "shop manuals" GM dealers use. You can buy a subscription at the ACDelco Technical Delivery System (TDS) site. Scroll down to the "Service Information" heading. A three-day subscription is 22 bucks. Monthly and Yearly subs. are also available.
In GMSI, you'll find comprehensive instructions on pulling the intake off an LT6
It's 8 bolts and not rocket science. The challenge is the narrow space and combination of extensions and joints that a service manual won't address

3 hours to take it off, one day painting, 1 hour putting it back together. You need a 1/4 inch universal for the driver's side rear bolt.

Just a curiosity question here since DBM racing painted my IM.
did the process involve sanding, or was degreasing, priming, and painting sufficient?
Thanks
no sanding. Clean and degrease only. He doesn’t have his paint shop sand either or didn’t when I showed him how to do it all. The blue manifold above had no sanding and perfect coverage. A few colors don’t adhere as well but it’s more of a thin paint thing.
