Default Ideas to deter theft? Steering wheel lock? Kill switch? Etc?

Recently purchased my first corvette... Already have some suspicion that someone might be trying to steel it. At the moment, I’ve been making a point to park my truck behind the C7 in the evenings. But during the day it’s often in the driveway on its own, and aside from a blink camera watching it there aren’t any real security measures.

I’m contemplating buying one of those old school steering wheel lock bars that I can put on it when it’s left in other places, like the gym parking lot.

Curious to hear what everyone else here is doing?

I don't know how effective, but I do have a steering wheel lock that looks really beefy.
Anything to slow them down.

Which one do you use? I’m not naive enough to think a motivated thief can’t bypass that kind of thing, but in my opinion the harder you make it for them the better. With that in mind, the fact that the steering wheel lock is right there in plain sight is a good thing, I would think.

I got this one. I picked it because it looks "tough". LOL
It is much heavier than The Club if that means anything.

the club steering wheel - locks steering wheel
Soler Performance DLX Bluetooth Throttle Controller - can lock out accelerator pedal
41.22 Kill Switch and relay - replaces stock start relay with switchable relay

I installed several layers of anti theft. If one doesn't stop them, hopefully another will. Got to do all we can to slow down these miscreants. Thevies
want to do what they do quickly. They want to be gone within a few minutes and won't have time to figure out each deterrent.
1. Cover the dash vin plate
2. OBD2 block
3. Steering wheel lock
4. Solar pedal lockout. They aren't going to figure out each deterr
5. Factory alarm
6. Starter relay kill switch
7. Air tracker

The Club is an old device that fell out of favor back in the 80s/90s when thieves would use bolt cutters to cut the steering wheel and remove the Club. While designed to stop casual thieves, professional thieves could circumvent The Club in seconds by using a hacksaw or bolt cutters to cut through the steering wheel’s rim (often made of softer material), allowing the device to be slipped off.

Question. What would YOU need to steal my car? This isn't the old days where you can pop the steering column, hotwire the car and be off. You are going to need to buy some devices to get it started and to your shop without being caught. Whether it is to the tow truck around the block or to a bigger truck, you need some electronics to bypass the current security. Buying the tools to joyride probably isn't something most people can go to Wal*Mart and buy. I'm not sure casual thieves are a thing unless you are leaving your keys on the dash.

But just for the hell of it, why would someone ask us amateurs? Ask the people who are insuring your car. See what they will contribute towards. Back in the days where ABS was a fancy option, they gave you discounts if your car had ABS, thus encouraging you to pick an ABS car. Ask your insurance company what they will give you discounts for since you are protecting their investment ON YOUR DIME. They are experts and spend countless hours studying how to make sure you don't get the car stolen so they can collect money and not pay out.

I use a club like device if I am in the city...also have the Soler...I didn't think to cover the VIN. I will be doing that today.

If a professional repo man wants your car they will just use a high tech tow truck. They don't even have to leave their cab and parallel parking your car won't help. 30 seconds and they're gone with your car in tow. Remarkable machines.

If a professional thief wants your car to sell they will just high tech electronics to open, start and drive away with out any damage.

Keep good insurance, you really don't want it back.

For cars with our level of security, what other kind of thieves are there? Smash the window and hope to find they key by lowering the sun visor?

Like we agreed, have insurance with a deductible and make sure you do waste money on trackers and wish them the best speed.

They went hi tech so go old school. I use the steering wheel club and a cheap $30 dash mount loud af alarm mounted next to hud buttons as the deterrents.. placed a locking cover on the osb2 port. 3 things to slow them down. I also have the soler performance throttle control that will zero the gas pedal on the app. Simple lil things better than no visual or audio devices imo.. That my two cents..

All this talk of what everyone uses only educates the thieves as to what they need to defeat them. It's like a "How To Steal a Corvette" for the thieves. If they can steal a car I'm sure they can read so they come here to find out what guys are using.. It's a sad situation that is only promoted by our corrupt court system.

If only we were a trove of information for the thieves as opposed to being entertainment for them. Kinda like a patient going to a doctor with "I want this treatment I saw on YouTube.".

If you have a better court system, go for it. I agree it isn't perfect but I have yet to see a better court system overall.

Faraday pouch for your key fob. Keep your key fobs in the pouch at home and any time you're not using the keys. If you go to the store, put the fob in the pouch as soon as you exit the car (make sure your car auto locks). When you see thieves getting into cars w/out breaking windows when the car is locked it's likely because they use a signal booster to replicate your key fob to get into your car. Faraday pouch prevents the signal from escaping. Ultimately remember if someone wants your car they're going to get it no matter what precautions you take. It'll deter amateur thieves but the pros will get your car no matter what.

You know many amateur thieves who possess such equipment?

I don't know any thieves, but a signal repeater is nothing fancy and is cheap so even a high schooler can afford one. Amateur thieves are likely to use it just to get into your car and steal things, not steal the car itself; however, if you own a KIA TikTok showed them how to easily hotwire the car so that's how many of the kids broke into KIAs and took them for a joy ride. On our cars they would need a scan tool in order to steal the car.

My opinion is that they're going to have to break the window if they want to access my car. They'll have to work for it. I also thought about buying an OBDII relocator so they would have to use a flat bed/tow truck if they really wanted it. Fortunately I don't live in a shitty place so I don't have to really worry about professional thieves.

Edit: Just a quick google search shows you can get one on Ali Express for $17-22 and one claims to have a range of 1000m.
