modern and new isn't always better the parts may become more plastic, the design is more for easily assembling the car not maintaining it or being easy to maintain.
A modern engine is loaded with complexity that makes it difficult to repair and replace parts
Many proprietary parts are discontinued or available only at high cost from direct manufacturer
I think longevity and easy to work on peaks somewhere in the late 90's mid 00's and just goes down from that once they started added dod afm afl vvti direct injection and ten different types of emissions equipment, ten speed transmissions, state space pwm solenoids for shifting, multiple body chassis computers communicating with engine related,
as complexity scales the basic diy maintainer becomes more and more unable to do anything with their purchase
as complexity scales the manufacturing processes and parts become more and more novel untested design with unexpected long term consequences
I find this distortion on most forums. I take a prescription drug that during the FDA compliance trials 5% of the users had gastro issues.
On the drug's forum 50% of the posters are reporting gastrointestinal issues.

Thanks for all the messages everyone! This forum is a really great place to hang around!
