There are a lot of owners out there that feel they need to beat down the lesser models and intentionally inflate themselves to a higher peg.
Agree 100% (except for the phrase “lesser models”). The term base can be used solely as a descriptor or as an attempt at a put down by someone potentially with some kind of issues. I think the C8 crowd is about to enter this world. Enjoy your Corvette.

You should take pride in yours being the base model. After all, the GS, 427, Z06, and the ZR1 were all "based" on the original (base) platform. I refer to my 3LT, Z51 optioned 2006 convertible as a base. I think you got your knickers in a wad for nothing. Enjoy the fact you own a Corvette and press on.
So is a 1Lt Gand Sport conisdered a "base" Grand Sport
Stripper Grand Sport. It's still a Grand Sport, thus not a base. You can have a stripper Z06 too, I don't think the ZR1 had a true stripper model, and they all came as equivalent to at least a 3LT?
On the other end is a 4LT/Z51 loaded base model. It happens .
Overall, the Z51 base coupe is going to handle better than a GS without that rpo. Bigger, cross drilled rotors, etc.
The GS a/t is just a wide bodied base.
The Z06 is a different car. Lighter aluminum frame ls7 dry sump. M/t only.
Personally, I love the rear scoops on the wide body quarter panels. I love the scoop in the front bumper of the wide body cars. But I don't like the heat extractors on the GS front fenders. In fact, I really dislike them. But the Z06 style I love.
Everyone has an opinion. If everyone liked exactly the same thing our community would look like a herd of little turtle Tesla's.
Saying one Corvette is better than another is beyond ridiculous. It's as ridiculous as the "3rd pedal club". "You're not a real man if you don't drive a M/T". That's real cool till you see a combat injured Vet missing his leg still driving. As for the snowflake comment, what's sadder than that is the person that feels the need to insult others and their belongings to feel better about themselves and what they own.
Anyone what to whip out a ruler? I'm in.

Ah... Buddy... There's no way to say this nicely... You don't know what a GS is.
All the upgrades the Z51 adds... Are upgraded further. Bigger cross drilled rotors get even bigger, with 6 piston brakes. Suspension is taken from the Z06 and a step up from the Z51. Wheels and tires? Wider and match the Z06. The GS is a clear step up in performance in terms of braking and handling from the Z51. I could see the argument that the Z51 is faster in a straight line, it weighs slightly less. So on a prepped surface with the right tires, it's got a slight advantage. Outside of that one niche case... No. And I've had both.
All that said,y base Z51 car felt more lively. The GS has so much grip it can be a bit... Tame feeling. Those bog front tires don't feel like they turn on as quickly as the base cars do. The big rear tires make the rear end less playful. The GS is a beast on track, but around town, the base is a bit more fun.
Its base because ALL the other models are "based" on the first model...sort of the first wrung in that particular generations ladder of cars......You can get a base Corvette loaded up with a lot of options...Its not really base any more than a GS in a poser to z06...
