Default Removing Upper Control Arm Bushings

I want to replace the shredded bushings in my arms with Superpros, but I am afraid to try pressing out the old ones. Just thinking about it fills my mind with images of deformed or snapped arms. Also, don't the original bushings have metal shells? Is there a good way of getting the bushings and shells out that doesn't run the risk of breaking the arms?

Yes, there is a inner metal sleeve in the bushings. Those are often the easiest to press out. Just line up a similar in diameter socket and press it out using the hollow end of a much larger socket on the other side of the bushing as your surface.

Use this YT video as a reference, starting at 5:46. -

van steel will chemically clean the upper and lower control arms, install new ball joints and control arm bushings for $560. pricy, but low risk.

I saw that video a while back, and seeing him bend that arm like that made me physically cringe. I thought for sure it would snap or at least be deformed. I could put a piece of wood between the spokes of the arm, but I'd rather err on the side of caution.

I'll check out Van Steel. Better to be safe than sorry.

Was the reason I had you reference the 5 minute mark and not the first few minutes where he put both arms of the A in compression. You can pretty easily brace the opposite side of the bushing so you don't have the arms getting pressed towards another.
