‘Key Fob Not Detected’ even when in the glove box slot
2005 c6 ls2, 53k miles, replaced starter a few months ago.
Got the Key Fob Not Detected message and looked through a bunch of forums as it is a common issue, however, nothing seems to work for me.
Replaced my key fob battery, then tried cleaning the old battery terminals and got the car to start once with fob in glovebox. Wouldn’t start after. Got a new car battery and then the car started with the fob in the glovebox a few times. Then tried programming the key and waited the 3 10min intervals and went through the whole process but at the end got no fobs detected again. And now the car wont even start with the fob in the glovebox.
At this point im at a complete loss. Any ideas?
and use the short programming procedure to add it in. It’s a really good idea to have two working fobs. BTW, your car never forgets a fob, unless you perform the long procedure. There was no need to have done that with your existing fob for the purpose of solving your current problem.
If you can add the second fob in and the problem still persists with the new fob, then further investigation will be needed.
Also, will the existing fob open doors and the trunk by pressing the unlock button?
Good evening, I’m new and looking for a bit of assistance. I recently purchased an 09 ZO6 and the dealer only provided one fob. I purchased two GM OEM fobs; so I have the original25926479(which was set as driver 2), and a new25926479and new25926480.
I followed the long programming procedure on this forum and I got all the fobs to work. However, it still recognizes the original -79 as Driver 2, and the others as 3 and 4; I redid this a few times and obtained the same results. The 3 and 4 aren’t customizable, but fobs work perfectly fine; i.e. lock, unlock, hatch, and ignition.
I’ve tried making the new ones driver 1 in various orders, but it only recognizes them as 3 and 4. I’ve also tried making the original driver 1, but it always resets to 2.
After those attempts I tried resetting the engine control module (ECM/ECU) to delete the settings. This didn’t work either.
When I tried resetting the ECM and doing the long programming procedure I got the same results. Again, I got all the keys to work, but they were all just as listed above. The only difference was, this time the OEM -79 let me know driver 2 was “Eric.”
I know the ECM reset because I had to fix the windows and the car idled rough until I allowed it to idle for a few minutes.
I checked the forum, but I haven’t seen this specific issues posted. I know this is trivial, but I’d like to get it sorted out.
First I’ve heard of this situation. The long procedure is supposed to erase all known fobs, and then you program fobs to the car in order starting at 1. Not sure what you mean be ECM reset, unless you are talking about disconnecting the battery and touching the two cables together. If so, that will not erase any fob information. You should be able to switch back and forth between the settings for fobs 1 and 2 by using the switch on the drivers door. You’d need to do that with the car in neutral and the parking brake set to get all of the fob 1 options, so you could see what they are set to. Other than that, I’ve heard of a custom tune interfering with the fob programming process, but in that case the owner couldn’t program the fob at all. Do you have a custom tune in play?
