picked up the new paint for the steering column since the stuff from CA is the wrong tint. When I was at the paint store while they were mixing it. the color looked spot on from the sample against the hoor pull. she did tell me that once in an aerosol can the color can change some. I'm guessing it's from whatever is inside the can that it mixes with. Anyway got it redone and clear coated. then put the dash in for a quick test fit. need to take it back out and install all the switches and speakers so I don't have to fight that while it's in there. Color wise it's pretty darn close maybe a little darker but 100% better than the CA stuff.
That looks pretty darn close in the picture and it looks amazing.
In the past I’ve noticed that when I’ve used clear coat it has a tendency to slightly change the tint of the paint along with the sheen.
pulled the dash back out so I can pre assemble it to make sure everything lines up as it should before installing it permanently in the car. also makes it easier to drill pilot holes for everything while it's out. I will say that Al Knoch interiors did a great job on producing the dash. so far everything has fit great. only thing I had to trim was the opening for the wiper switch. hoping to put it in for good today or tomorrow. for some reason Work seems to keep getting in the way.

I never thought to fit check it all together on the work bench first.
I’ll be doing mine the same way now!
Thanks for sharing the tip!
lets just say work didn't get much out of me today. LOL since I start my day at 4:30 am I was done by noon today. I think I made good progress. Drivers door panel installed and the dash 75% installed. I broke the dang AC vent on the pass side trying to force the duct on. got in a rush and didn't want to fight that bottom screw on the lower side of the dash for the 5th time.
tomorrow going to install the radio and console. you can see in the one picture where the AC vent is not sitting right. Searching for a new vent now.
Happy to share that today was the maiden voyage in my new-to-me 1980. I bought the non-running car with a blown engine earlier this year. I swapped in a 400. I added some bolt-on performance goodies and a little jewelry. I am pleased to say that it ran well today on its first trip. Its running cool too. I installed a new aluminum rad. A new water pump, thermostat, hoses and belts too. Those items must be working well together.
I bought a "crate". Perhaps it once held a water-engine prototype. Perhaps it still does. I'll find out when I open it, like a geode.
For now, I placed it by the SRIII chassis, while I prepare a "CLEAN ROOM", per the opening instructions.
Interestingly, the dimensions of the crate nearly exactly match a rolling body cradle that I bought from a welder, only with much more expensive casters.
C3cruiser. I was looking at your photos. And I'm horrified to inform you that your air-conditioning compressor is missing!
Holy ****!
Hope you find the arsehole who stole it!

Ha!
Canadian car here. A/C option was not selected it seems. We do get some hot weather here but not like in parts of the USA where it’s hot for months. What good is A/C anyway when the tops are never installed? 😁 If the tops have to go on, it won’t be leaving my garage. Too hot? Too cold? Raining? Snowy? Nope. We are generally pretty tepid from April 1 to Oct 31. A few weeks of 100F mixed in, in July or Aug.

I want A/C just to have it blowing on my feet...they are hot all the time. I used to ski patrol in UTah and my feet would be sweating when it was -5 F out and I was standing on the side of the mountain.
Today I finished up the work on my front porch so I could jump in the garage and pull the rear end out of the vette that I broke just over a weeke ago...Took about 4 hours ,,, it was nasty outside too.. IT was like Florida nasty out..
A few pics of what I tackled all week long to get to that rearend with the custom 2 piece stub shafts
this thermometer sensor is in the shade
a little rotten, a few ants its seen better days
cut out the rot, patch some holes and strip a lot of paint....some of it was probably original from the 1800s..
Still needs some trim work and the paint drops cleaned off the granite buts its good enough until my next vacation when I can finish it off....hopefully cooler weather too
First, nice job on the porch, could not have been fun with the heat index today. Second, and I am no expert, I think you will find the car will drive better if you get some of those spare parts out of the differential...
Received my Dennys half shafts today...
Dana Spicer Yokes, flanges, Solid U-Joints.
All items made in the U.S.A.
When I ordered I asked no paint or stickers on the shafts. Stickers were in the invoice envelope....
Dana Spicer U-Joints for driveshaft along with all new mounting hardware...
