Default 1958 project on BAT

Normally I wouldn't even think about talking about value on here becuase so much plays into classic corvette values. I could really use some help with the below car. I have a level of interest but have zero clue what this car is worth. This car needs everything, plus a little but I have been thinking about a 58 but down I don't believe I want a stock 58 double carb or fuelie. A Project then sounds pretty attractive. I can't find any project 58 to compare. This seems far below the normal rating system. Thanks in advance for any help.

Could be a great candidate for a restomod.

The first thing I would say . . .if you don't do your own body work and paint it is not a good project cost wise. I am surprised how people on BAT over pay for most projects. I would guess it would get bid up to the mid 20s and I think that is too much given parts cost and how much labor is involved with paint and body work for a non original car.

I think its the only way some people can afford getting into a car they want...... Pay as you go plan, they might have more into the car than its worth but alot won't care.. You only live once.... The Flippers are the people ( as this cars owner is) are the real problem for high prices...

I've seen cars in worse shape turned into jewels. All it takes is time and money.

Depending on how much work you can do yourself would dictate how much of each is needed. Having done a 58 myself, this BAT car needs everything. Looks like the body may be the only part that is worth anything (except the trunk irons and the carbs) but who knows how well that front end was attached.

$5k - 10k purchase, 100k costs depending on the route you go with it..............

I would buy it at $10K but can't see that happening. I do body work and paint work. When I learned to color sand, I learned what a great paint job is. I know it needs everything but I want a 58 but I think I really want a resto mod. This car is helping me to think that through. I want modern frame, suspension, completely stock looking with a hot sbc. That why I thinking about this car. Could be a fun project. I just don't have a lot of time right now, but as they say, they are building 58's any more. Not sure I want to purchase a 75K car, and switch the body onto modern frame, suspension, and engine trans. Hmm. The definition of a 1st world problem! That's to all for the feed back and sanity check!

I was thinking the same thing when I purchased this.. Besides the purchase price I did not want to destroy a nice stock car doing a resto mod with it..

This would be a perfect car to go that route with - if it can be bought at a reasonable price.

As you say, a solid frame, a stout SBC and a nice paint job and wheels would make it nice ride........

Last time I found a similar shape corvette and it went way over what I thought it was worth. I thought 25-30k and it went for 47k. Who knows with these markets. All it takes a bidding war. Good luck!

What I always say. You can take em apart in a couple weekends BUT it takes years to put em back together. Thats why sooo many project cars never get finished.

Unfortunately it's really hard to find the car before it gets on BaT, it takes a lot of time and luck. I was lucky and found my 62 three years ago, in pieces, good frame, usable (not nice) body, only missing quite a few nickel and dime parts...and it still cost 25k.

The trick to keeping costs down is to be satisfied with what you have, and not get into the snowball effect. Leave all of it looking like crap, but get it working the way you want, and just drive it.
