This concept has been around for a while now and some of this tech has been used in commercial vehicles already. I wonder what this will do to the prices of used or "pre configured" cars when it becomes standard in every new vehicle? You think it is possible that older "non-compliant" cars like C5's will become un-registerable? Or like my 2020 Mustang have to be brought up to compliance if I want to be able to drive it? I know in my 2024 Truck, my "modem" was broken when I picked it up and I didn't let them fix it as I don't like OTA updates and such that I cannot approve or verify before hand. I can still use the USB to feed any SW updates I may want, but to date, the truck has worked great except for the GPS and I use my phone for that. My truck is "whippled" and tuned as well, so I don't want any ability for some outside SW to possibly screw with my ECU and it's functionality. Anyway, interesting how these things are snuck in and it is always under the guise of safety, but like the moderator says, what happens when these system get it wrong? Who really owns the vehicle if some outside agency or algorithm decides when you can or can't drive?

 

I suspect we'll be okay in our C5's. If they force "classic" cars off the road, it will be through emissions laws. My 2016 SUV should be fine as well. As for newer cars, this isn't news. Like the lady in the video said there's been reporting on this for years. However, with the intellectual debt being created by AI, pretty soon nobody under a certain age will care. 1984 here we come.

Recently started an LLC and was thinking of a new truck to haul tools around to the local airports and make a little money to help offset what we pay for our health insurance. Nope. Not buying anything new that has this safety "feature". This is a really bad trend. Where does this end?
I've been watching Car Coach for a while, she also puts articles on Newsmax. For a Toyota, I read that you can opt out, if write a letter to Toyota, to get all the tracking turned off. Once this is signed into law, I bet there is no opting out. I also read that the fine print of what these new cars are tracking is built into the acceptance documents of new cars/trucks upon delivery. Buyer beware. I'm sure they are NOT advertising this feature. Tell everyone you know.

There are lots of things being considered in that industry. Toyota was going to sell you a car but then sell you subscriptions to the options already on it which you wish to use. The goal being to simplify production lines to reduce cost and then also boost revenue. Ford had patented something recently which folks considered sinister, though I forget the topic as presented on some yt video, but as soon as it was public knowledge Ford had to quickly recant and say.... Nooooooo, we wouldn't do that..... But we wanted to patent it anyway.

 

what bothers me the most about a lot of these concepts are how the data collected could be sold to insurance companies and used to jack up your rates. It's one thing if you agree to something in advance like that stupid Progressive Safe Driver ODBII device that monitors your speed and other driving parameters and reports it back to the mothership. But something running in the background and "narc'in" on ya without your approval is just too Big Brother to me. They kinda can do that now anyway with cell phone tracking and using your EZ Pass and the like to see where you go, how fast you go etc.
But I can keep those in a RF bag if I want. I work for the gov, I know how freaking shady they are and all of the crap they can do without you ever knowing it.

 

I’m actually surprised that more American people aren’t revolting against this, while simultaneously demanding immediate resignations of the elected political ****** who’ve done this. Oh well… I’ll spend the extra $ for fast used cars, so when a communist wishes to stop me for refusing to be tracked (or shut down on the side of the road, at THEIR WILL), they’ll need lots of horsepower, and training, as I refuse to give up my freedom to proceed unobstructed by bureaucratic scum.

There is a bill in Minnesota that is aimed to limit historic collector plate cars only to be driven during daylight hours on Saturday and Sunday. Also only to events and shows. The way it is written you are not to even start them any other time.

California has discussed limiting where you can drive older cars and banning them from entering some cities. This is already going on in Europe where you are either banned or you pay a toll.

There are a number of deals like this all over the place that SEMA is fighting.

Most people do not know because they never hear about it and most can even tell you who their house rep is in congress. People in general are ignorant and only know what they see on the web that is full of BS too. Many things are being stolen from them right in front of them but they have no clue. The media and web are so corrupt and controlled anymore for the agenda of people trying to take your freedoms.

The SEIU that is controlling many teacher unions is a socialist agency. This is why so much is being taught in schools that is not American based. The web is filled with Botts and AI that spread lies and propaganda most never catch.

People need to wake up and understand their are forces outside and now inside the country that want to destroy or freedoms. Just look at the cities and their leftist policies.

They are now marching on May 1 the same day the Soviets celebrate.

I expect next they will follow the socialist play book and use violence and intimidation next.
