Hi,
I am wondering if anyone has purchased one of the dash mounted car play devices offered today, and what were your experiences? I have an 2001, and the radio has already been upgraded with a single din Panasonic unit that for the most part works just fine. I would however like to have the mirror image function so I can use my phone for Waze or Google maps and have it show up on the screen so I do not have to look at the small screened phone. The added forward mounted camera would be a big plus at the same time.
Thanks, JIM
I suggest going with something like this which'll fit in your dash without mods. and will do everything you want, and look better. I personally don't have any experience with these systems, but they look pretty good in the C5's. https://reversionraceworks.com/97-04...SABEgLErPD_BwE
Madsonp,
Thanks for your input,
I agree with you somewhat. But, as stated, I already have a perfectly good Panasonic single din that replaced the factory radio. The current radio has all the adapters to work with the bose system and functions very nicely. That is the only reason I am tempted to go the dash mounted system. I am hoping for some 1st hand experience, good or bad.
Thanks, JIM

Ok, but I'm sure your Panasonic is out dated and can't do what this unit will, plus like I mentioned, you wouldn't have to have anything on your dash which would be a big plus to me, but hey, it's your car. Also the adapters you already have my work with this system, you'll just have to see what you have and compare it to what they say to use.

I don't see a link to these dash mounted displays that you have in your first post. I am assuming that that is all they are, a remote display that will connect to your phone.
To me, these don't seem to much better than using a phone mount that can be turned to have your phone in landscape mode.
I agree with @madsonp , you would be much better off replacing your panasonic head unit with one of the units he provided the link for. It would fit your dash without modifications, and provide the features that you want (and most likely more). I also agree that sticking one of those remote displays on your dash would ruin the look and also look too out of place for the dash design of your car.
Another option, but would require dash modifications, is to install a double DIN modern radio using one of the dash kits available and any of the hundreds of double DIN head units available on the market.
A final option would be to look into the C5 version of the MaxDin head unit, but this also will require dash modifications. I don't have any personal experience with any of the MaxDin units, but many on the forum seem to like theirs. I personally don't like how the vendor treats potential customers and even those who have purchased his unit. You can find several posts on this forum of how it can be dead silence when you run into an issue, and many posts from people saying just the opposite. I guess it depends on how much you bother him, or something, who knows. That alone would make me look elsewhere, but to each their own. It's your car, do what you want.
Madsonp and NBVette,
You are both missing the point. I understand that I could buy what was referred to above. BUT, doing so would involve spending $500, $600, or more to do so, and not have the camera options (front and back) I have a (NEWER) Panasonic head unit with bluetooth and phone that works perfectly, actually is is the best sounding radio out of all my vehicles. I am not in the habit of spending money needlessly.
Again, thanks for the input, but I am hoping to find someone with first hand experience with a unit similar to the link below. JIM
