I had some time this afternoon and installed the new drain tubes and stainless covers for the Astrovent's drains on my '72. I did not like the finished look of the rivets with the mushroomed end in the wheel well and ended up using stainless buttonheads, loctite, and nuts with integral serrated washers in place of the rivets.
Excuse the dust, I had to scrape some dried Lizardskin out of the hole that the drain tube passes through. Looking up in the wheel well at the stainless drain covers.

Good to see you are back at it. Haven't seen you in a while
Well parts came in from Al Knoch interiors. only problem is what I was dreading that the stuff I already re did with Dye from CA "Corvette America" isn't the same tint. . the stuff Knoch sent is correct as you will see in the pic below because it matches the original parts. I kind of figured this out right about the time I ordered things as I had put a trim piece in and it didn't quite match the dash. that's why I pulled the dash out to redo it and the end broke causing me to have to get a new one for it. calling Al's place tomorrow to get the proper dye code they used to take and get mixed unless I can get them to ship me some either way works. only problem is a rattle can works better for me especially since I need to redo the steering column inside car as I don't really want to pull it out to.The armrest in the middle is the one I did with the dye from CA. bottom pic is old and new dash for comparison. if I'm going to have to do things with a paint gun I can see a new compressor showing up as my small one really needs to be replaced after 25+ years.
With the help of a friend I replaced the carpet and installed some heat and sound deadener. I was getting ready to toss the old carpet in the dumpster at work and I noticed a tag on the one piece. My car rolled off the production line on May 24th. The carpet manufacture date is May 8th. I learned about Just in Time Inventory way back in college. Like this carpet I'm sure a lot of parts were going from receiving dock to production line. What really caught my eye was the carpet manufacturer JP Stevens. I started working in the roofing industry in 1986 and at that time JP Stevens had a heat weldable roofing sheet. It was a terrible product to work with and failed miserably. They were one of the early manufacturers of heat weld roofing products that are now dominating the commercial roofing market.
Did some more tuning this past Sunday and got it where I like it, but one thing that has been bothering me for awhile is that one of the idle air adjusting screws is pretty wobbly. So I will probably pull the carb and put some heli coils in to tighten them up. On another note after clearing out the blocked fuel tank vent line I no longer have the fuel tank pressurizing like it was.
I jump-started my power windows by hooking up a battery to the starter extension harness connector. With the windows rolled up, and the hood put back on, I towed my 79 to her new home.
I’ve been doing a few little things that need finishing like installing some clamps to hold the heater hoses, ac lines and fuel return line in place.
I also installed some hose separators to keep things nicely routed.
Its just part of my OCD.
Except for wiring, I’m finished with everything under the hood.
After I get the grass mowed and some yard work accomplished this morning, I’ll pull the newly painted sport mirrors out of the boxes, assemble them and get them ready to be mounted to the doors.
New door panels came in from Al Knoch today. about to head to the automotive paint store down the road to get the correct color dye to match everything. Friday needs to hurry up and get here. Work is getting in my way. LOL one more box shipped yesterday that should be carpet or seats. hoping to have it all back together by the 20th for a Corvette day event here in Houston. good thing is the wife heads to Tacoma Wash Monday to visit her sister so there will be nothing else to do but spend my time with the C3

Found out a new power steering pump is required as the old one is leaking. Good it was found when the 75 was in for the TKX and the Borgeson steering box.
Since I had the spare tire tub out I thought I would strip and repaint the steel structure...
Used a water base paint stripper and pressure washer...
Took 3 applications...
Hand sand with 220...
Last coat of primer last night so I always give the primer I use 48 hours before top coat...
After much work over the winter and fall on my 76, including removing the 1972 3.08 and installing the original 3.36, rebuilding the Qjet and installing in place of the Holley, I have to say my car is running great. Shout out to Lars for his Qjet and timing papers. Worth their weight in gold.
