I read this on a FB post. Does this work? Would this damage a ceramic coating?
“Once every 4 washes, I dilute 50/50 mixture of water and distilled white vinegar and spray rotors and calipers and rims down and let sit for 3 mins, then rinse wash with normal soap and dry. This keeps rust off of everything and eats brake dust without damaging anything. I have had no squeal at all since I adopted this method. Z51 22 HTC Stingray here. 16,000 miles.”
The vinegar is a very mild acid, so it is nominally reactive. I'd be very wary of it being on my ceramic coating (if I had any, I don't). I'd look up the "cautions" on the brand of ceramic you used or call the wheel mfg. and ask them. Or you might look at wheel cleaners that are ceramic safe for the chemical composition? Figure this: household white vinegar is about 3 - 6% by volume so most of the gallon is proly tap water.
When I used to use water & foam to wash my car, I would always blow dry the car, wheels included and then go for a drive, but that wasn't a C8. I don't notice any "Z51 brake squeal" on my '21 Z51 car, but I use waterless wash so I'm an anomaly. LOL
This stuff actually works. I have used it on mountain bikes and it works great.
My 2023 squeals when backing up. Tried it today on the C8 and had no squeal when I backed out of the driveway.
Not sure how long that will last.
