Default Non-Traditional Insurance for a C 6

I just bought a 2007 3LT coupe (LS2 6 speed auto) loaded to the gills. Navigation, CD/DVD, electra ride (over $11K in factory options) Plus custom carpets ... in a great discontinued color... with well under 21K miles.

I spent $31K but it has every option the factory sold --including, 2 targa tops, Plus---multiple covers---you name it ...and the dealer put new top of the line tires on it for me and a new AC battery.

It was traded in for a C-8 at a well respected dealer.

So the question is... I put my standard State Farm coverage in it.. and the cost is less than a 2017 Civic in my garage.

Should I insure this vehicle through Haggerty or one of the other companies who deal in collectable cars???????? I paid a premium price but it is a premium car????

Hi, Mark, welcome and congrats on your C6. After reading some about it here on the Forum, I went with insurance through the National Corvette Museum. Fortunately, I have never had to use it, but I’m sure there will be several on here who will chime in. One of the things I like best is the agreed upon value. Be aware that there are some restrictions. Enjoy your Corvette!

Hagerty customer here. I'm happy with them. If you go with collector car insurance, make sure you understand the limitations of having it insured as a classic. You can't daily drive them to work with those policies, for one. Every insurer is different. Ask questions before you commit.

Also, may people will recommend an insurer with the caveat that they haven't had a claim. I have had a claim with Hagerty and they paid for everything no questions, including putting new PPF on the car.

Mark - best of luck with your new ride!
Absolutely agree with going with NCM.
Two things I would add.
Go with “agreed value”.
This is where you and the insurance company agree on your comp coverage.
Also - figure out what your annual mileage will be as this will affect your premium.

If your car gets totaled, State Farm will only pay you wholesale/auction price for your $31,000 car. Probably half that $31k.

USAA was charging me 1500 a year for my '17 Grand Sport. I put my 72 LT-1 and my Grand Sport on Hagerty 2 months ago and the total is 1200 a year. Saved me a bunch and I drive my cars whenever I want, just not for everyday errands.

Hagerty here, and they have no mileage limits. But most of the collector companies require you to have a daily driver. And it needs to be in a garage. Have fun with the new toy. The best feeling I had when I bought my 2012 was going out to the garage in the morning and seeing it sitting there, knowing it was MINE!
