Default What is this in wiring diagram?

Hi, since I bought the car I have not been able to get the cigarette lighter working. There are some other problems like courtesy lights sudenly lighting up, door ajar stopped working and right turn signal sometimes lights up slightly. Although more problems probably involved, I want to start with the cig. lighter. The wiring says the orange wire goes to something. What is it?

Probably a dumb question...

Thanks as always

The circled connector is the front main to rear harness connector. In the schematic you'll see one just like it on the rear harness.

The orange wire goes to the bottom of the lighter receiver, see the stud in the bottom? The wire clips onto this stud. I don't know what year it is

You didn't say what year but 1976-1982 cars used a grounding ring between the lighter housing and the shift console lighter depression. If it's 1968-1975 then your car didn't use this ring.

You wouldn't have a picture of the connector, would you? Where is it placed? I think it has something to do with a headlight switch because when I turn the lights on (low beam) the cig. lighter stops working. There is some small voltage around 1v. It is frustrating because I disassembled the centre console, repaired it, checked it several times but once I started the car, it stopped working again.

The center cluster is grounded through the temperature gauge ground. It provides ground for all the small gauges and the wiper switch indirectly. Look at the middle terminal and how it is attached to the housing... It's direct contact.

The heater control had a separate ground lug terminal on the heater control.

Do the connectors go to the back of the fuse panel?
EDIT: I see now, the connectors connect to each other, right? Where?

Behind the left kick panel. Remove the sill plate, then remove the screws that hold the kick panel... and then (if you are a contortionist person) you'll see the rear and front connection.

Sounds like a ground to me. I know its a 69 but if its wired like a 68 you have grounds everywhere and if they arent all connected then you get a bigger draw as a light tries to light by pulling more current or uses a different system as a ground. The right turn signal uses the tach ground, check to make sure its connected, the door ajar switch is at the back of the door and the courtesy lightswitches are at the front. The courtesy lights will light if you turn the light switch **** so if you twist while pulling they may light or the switch is worn out and your getting a connection randomly internally.

If I remember correctly, my console had a ground for the frame, a ground for the console lights and a ground for the lights in the temp controls, but its a 68. If you have an early 69 maybe its goofy like the 68s

At one point, when the car had carpets changed and the wiring was checked, everything was working (except for the darn cig. lighter). Now the dimming in the headlight switch does not work even though it worked before. Do you reckon it is the connector or the switch?

if the dimming rheostat no longer works then that maybe a problem related to your lights going on and off. I doubt it would effect the cigar lighter.I would test it for sure
