Interesting.. so lets give the appraiser the benefit of the doubt.. can someone come up with any explanation at all for the $50k quote back then? I cannot. if anything they were even less desirable.

I dont see how millennial factor into this. I dont see it ever being cool to own one under the age of 35. Have you ever seen one drive a 69 camaro? A millennial is gonna go for the 2018 with the gadgets. A millennial cannot walk this earth without gadgets and a phone interfaced to everything.. if it can interface to the differential the millennial will want to know the temperature of the fluid on his phone. this just make sense which is why Im asking if there is an explanation.

Thee only way a millennial is going to own a c4 is by inheritance and it will be craiglisted that week.

Only explanation I can give is the appraiser didn’t know what they were talking about.

I think if you sold this car for $40K, the buyer would hold it for 20 years and it will be like a zero mile mid 60's vette at Barrett Jackson. This should become a car that is never driven. From this point, it's hard to see $40K in stock market beating this car in 20 years.

yup an in todays money that 32k that it cost is equivalent to about 65k and the 45k he gets today is worth about 15k back in 86 so in fact he bought a brand new vette kept it and didn't even enjoy it for 32 years and lost 20k in todays money even if he gets 45 for it, which I find highly doubtful. Cars are like guns. VERY few are good investments. Vettes are a dime a dozen unless there rare ones like split windows or L88s or ls6 chevelles, hemi mopars, boss 429 and shellby cars put your money in your pillow and youll do better. . Even the buyers of zr1s lost there pants in the long run. You sure cant call selling a car today for 45 that cost 32k 30 years ago a good investment. Had a buddy that bought a brand new 78 pace car. Drove it right to his garage because everyone said they were THE investment. Well 20 years later he sold it for less then he paid for it and that's not even factoring in inflation. He will tell you today that its the worse investment he ever made. I still say its a cool car but until c4s catch on if they ever do its probably a 25k car. Nobody at barrette Jackson is searching for a 0 mile 77 ford Granada or even an 84 Camaro either. Buy it for 25 and you have yourself a brand new vette to drive and enjoy for a 1/3 the price of a new one. roll the dice on the value of it in 20 years but my guess is cost of living will again have doubled or tripled by then and its going to be worth not a cent more.

The cost of air conditioned storage and insurance alone outweigh the extremely minimal gains of holding this car. It s a SELL situation and it should be enjoyed after being refurbished. This car will not beat out any reasonable investment in 20 yrs.. no way no how. The early c3's are just coming around now if they have shiny bumpers.

Sell it and buy a fund if you want an investment.

Its cool as far as time capsules go. I want photos!

Not really much of a conversation, more like 3 pages of opinions.

The OP hasn’t ‘officially’ signed-in since Nov 17/2017.?
He may have ‘peeked’ in as a guest but never responded.
I checked this car out before he bought it.
It was very clean but needed some repairs to put it on the road.

Graham.

Yes forums are for opinions and personal views but "for sale" forums are not. They are classifieds and opinions, especially negative ones, are usually not allowed.

Please accept my apology. I thought your comment was directed to my comment that it would be great if it were moved to the general forum.

c4's are very interesting.. they are very very undesirable. But you wind up with a race car under a 80's styled skin that is streetable. One day as the earth takes these back they will start to be come valued. Im guessing it will be awhile. the c3's with no chrome bumper are probably a good buy if you want to own a car that will raid in value soon.

No problem broham.....but i have owned my 1980 since 1990. Have probably $35k in it and might get $11 or $12k. Gonna be a while before i am anywhere near good. My zrq i think i can own gor 5 or more years and hopefully break even. Good thing is you never know when they are going to pop. My 87 Benz 560sl has finally started to go up but they still are not bringing list yet...gonna be a while for all of us.
