Default 84' Cruise Control Wont Engage

I'm having an issue with the cruise control on my vette. I've checked the fuse and it tests good. I can manually actuate the cruise control servo by pressing on the diaphragm, and when I do, the engine revs up and both throttle bodies open properly. Because of that, I think the servo/actuator itself is still functional. The problem is that the cruise control will not engage while driving. When I press the cruise buttons, nothing happens. Has anyone run into this before or have suggestions on what I should check next? I'm wondering if it could be a brake switch, speed sensor, steering wheel switch, vacuum issue, or something else in the control circuit.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!!

There is a vacuum hose that runs through the firewall to the brake light switch. Make sure it hasn't rotted away or somehow become disconnected. It was rotted at the switch on my '84.

Lift up with your foot on the brake (and clutch if a 4 speed) and see if you get anything. From there you can start testing the coils in the servo and wiring.

Mine ended up being a blown transistor in the gauge cluster. There is a lot to troubleshoot on the system.

My 84 makes an audible click when you arm the servo with the ignition on. (Switch to middle position for cruise from off)

The brake switch has both a vacuum and electrical switch connections for enabling / disabling the cruise control, had the electrical switch fail on my 85 years ago. Started by occasionally dropping out the cruise control at random, then more often over months sometimes kicking or lifting the pedal would sort it for a while. Eventually I removed the switch and disassembled it to find it needed replacement, the metal contact strip had failed. From memory it was a combination switch with one vacuum port and one electrical port, the electrical part was the problem which opens when applying the brake. The switch would not close when pedal was released, so check the brake switches with a multimeter. You should have one that closes on pedal push for brake light and one that opens on pedal push for cruise deactivation. The vacuum hoses need to be checked for leaks, also the switch to pedal adjustment needs to be checked. I believe the cruise circuit also had connection to the instrument cluster, hopefully someone can post cruise control trouble shooting info from their shop manual.
