This article applies to the C5 Corvette (1997-2004), and C6 Corvette (2005-2013).

A window that won't function correctly, due to a faulty regulator, can be extremely frustrating. Replacing the window regulator requires removal of the door interior, which can seem intimidating for a novice. In reality, it's fairly easy and doesn't require much in the way of special skills. The window regulator itself can be a costly item to replace. Doing the job yourself will save you money and the fix will most likely last you the life of your Corvette.

Materials Needed

  • Assorted metric sockets and rackets
  • T30 Torx bit
  • Flat head screwdriver
  • Sharpie

Step 1 – Remove the door panel

The door panel is held in place by two T30 Torx screws. Pop off the cover underneath the door handle with a flat head screwdriver to access them. After removing them, use a flat head screwdriver to pry off the door handle bezel. The door is secured by ridged connectors and will make a tremendous amount of noise when pulling the door panel off. When finished, disconnect the panel and set it aside.

Step 2 – Remove window glass

Unbolt and remove the door speaker. Draw a line on the window glass (along the glass holder brackets) with a Sharpie. This will make re-installing the glass correctly much easier. Next, remove the felt window track at the top of the windshield. Loosen the two glass holder bolts to slide the window up and out of the door.

Step 3 – Remove window regulator

Remove the square membranes (#1 in Figure 6) and remove the top regulator bolts. The third regulator bolt is under the black rubber insulator (#3). Lastly, remove the three bolts that hold the regulator motor in place (#4). Unplug the regulator and slide it out of the door.

Step 4 – Install the new regulator

Insert the new regulator and reverse the order of installation to re-install. The window will not go all the way up with the door open. The door will need to be shut to operate correctly and to fully go up.
