C6 Corvette: How to Install Throttle Body Spacer

A throttle body spacer may be just the right mod to complement your existing intake setup. Learn how to install one here.

This article applies to the C6 Corvette (2005-2013).

Throttle body spacers are a simple modification aimed at optimizing air flow through the intake tract. Companies like Vararam often bundle these spacers with their intake kits for a more comprehensive intake solution. They make claims that these spacers effectively lengthen the intake tract, which generates more torque. Power gains can be around 5HP/5TQ to the wheels, which is substantial for how inexpensive the part is, and how easy it is to install.

Materials Needed

  • Flat head screwdriver
  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • 10mm socket
  • Pliers (optional)

Step 1 – Remove the air intake

The air intake, or "lid," needs to come off of the vehicle. With either an aftermarket or original intake, this is usually removed with the use of your Phillips and flat head screwdrivers to remove any fasteners. The composite intake may require a gentle tug to separate it from the throttle body.

Pro Tip

Take caution not to use excessive force, as cracking this plastic, or damaging any part of the intake system could lead to a vacuum leak.

Step 2 – Remove the throttle body

With the intake removed, the throttle body is easily accessed. Look for three 10mm bolts that secure the throttle body to the manifold and unfasten them. Depending on the year of your vehicle, there may be some sensors attached near the throttle body. They should all be snap-on type connectors, and easily removable by hand.

Step 3 – Insert the spacer and re-install intake assembly

Imagine the spacer working like a gasket; it should slide between the throttle body and manifold, and remain in place with the aid of the previously used throttle body bolts. From here, re-install the intake assembly in the reverse order of the removal.

Pro Tip

Make sure that the spacer bolt holes are perfectly aligned with the throttle body and manifold bolt holes to ensure a snug, leak-free fit. Do NOT over-tighten these bolts; it will cause a vacuum leak.
