This article applies to the C6 Corvette (2005-2013).

The regulators are the mechanical component in the door that raise and lower the windows. Window regulators can go out for many reasons, but instead of taking it to a shop, use this guide to help you replace your regulator.

Materials Needed

  • 1/4 socket
  • Flathead screwdriver or pry tool
  • t30 Torx screwdriver
  • 10mm socket
  • Phillips head screwdriver
  • Pair of window wedges
  • Blanket

Step 1 – Remove the window control switch panel

Slide a flathead screwdriver under the edge of the panel, and use the screwdriver to pry the panel up (It's held in place by a clip). You can also use a small pry tool. Disconnect the wires and remove the switch panel.

Step 2 – Remove the door handle surround

Again, using the flathead screwdriver, pry the door surround loose. There are little indentations to stick the screwdriver into.

Step 3 – Remove the door panel screws

Under the armrest there is one screw to remove; this will give you access to two t30 Torx bolts to remove.

Step 4 – Remove the door panel

Starting at the bottom, wedge the flathead screwdriver between the door and its panel. Use the screwdriver to pry apart the clips holding the door panel in place.

Step 6 – Remove the window

  • Manually lower the window until it's half way showing.
  • Unscrew the pair of 14mm bolts on both bottom corners of the window.
  • Slowly peel back the sound reducing black material.
  • Gently remove the window up and out of the door, then lay it on the blanket.

Step 7 – Remove the regulator

  • Unsrew the 7 bolts in the door holding the regulator in place (one is under the door covered by a gasket).
  • Disconnect the regulator, and remove it from the door.

Step 8 – Install replacement regulator

Connect the regulator to the wire harness, align it in place of the old regulator, and screw it in.

Step 9 – Reassemble the door

Now that you are all done; follow the directions in reverse to reassemble your door. Replace all the screws, re-install the window, re-install the speaker, snap the door panel back on, screw it in, replace the door surround and replace the switch panel.

Pro Tip

Adjust the window and slowly close the door a few times to ensure the glass is set correctly.
