It Takes Two

The Corvette L88 is, by the standards of most, the most coveted iteration of America's sports car. So when we noticed that this stellar duo of '69s was being sold as a pair at Mecum Auctions, well, we were obviously intrigued.

Rare Opportunity

These two convertibles are also stellar examples of what was essentially a race car for the street. And when you consider that only 116 L88 Corvettes were produced in 1969, this is obviously a rare opportunity.

Green on Green

The first car in this picture perfect pair is an exceptionally rare Fathom Green example with a dark green interior, matching green hard top, and black soft top.

Rare Option

One of the most interesting options on this particular car is its heater, something that was deleted on most L88 Corvettes. But given the fact that the original owner drove it from Michigan to Alaska, that was probably necessary.

Award Winner

Our second L88 has racked up a number of prestigious awards, including Bloomington Gold certification, NCRS Performance Verification, and the highly coveted NCRS Duntov Mark of Excellence.

Making the Rounds

The green car is no slouch in that department either, having participated in the 1988 and 2008 Bloomington Gold Special Collection, the original Earthquake 88, and the 2008 L88 Invasion.

Changing Hands

The original owner of the green L88 sold his car immediately after his 6,000-mile cross-continent trip. It underwent an extensive restoration back in 1988 and still looks pretty much perfect today.

Well Documented

The former road touring and drag racing machine is quite the survivor as well, retaining its original tank sticker verified by NCRS historic document service, the Protect-O-Plate, and the owner's manual.

Survivor

Our Can-Am White on Saddle L88, on the other hand, is quite the survivor with just 46,000 miles showing on the odometer. It too comes with a copy of the original tank sticker.

Stay Together

This exciting pairing of L88s didn't quite sell at Mecum’s 32nd Original Spring Classic Auction at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, nabbing a high bid of $725,000. But you can bet that they'll be finding a new home soon - hopefully as a pair!
