1. Diagnostic Test
There have been a number of GM vehicles, including the Chevrolet Corvette, that are affected by a software issue. The problem could occur under specific driving conditions and habits, which would force the airbag module to run a diagnostic test, which means it deactivates the airbags for the test. If an accident occurs during this time, the airbags won't activate, thus causing a serious injury or even death.

2. Seat Belt Failure
The Chevrolet Corvette features a pretensioner that allows the seat belt to retract quickly to adjust the passengers in case of an emergency, thus keeping them in the right position and farthest from danger. During the diagnostic test that occurs randomly, the seat belt pretensioner fails, which means the airbags won't deploy, and the seat belt won't adjust appropriately.

There are three ways to check if your Corvette is affected by this recall:
- You can check with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration hot-line (1-888-327-4236) or website
- You can contact your dealership and provide your VIN number
- You can visit the GM Owner Center and input your VIN number
