6 Signs It's Okay to Skip Church to Drive Your Corvette

Should you feel guilty for going on a drive on a warm winter Sunday instead of church? No, and here are six reasons why.

1. The Weather

Who but the almighty controls the weather? A warm, clear Sunday in the middle of winter seems like a gift from God to reward you for a year of good, clean living. You should take your Corvette out and enjoy unseasonably warm days any time you can, and not waste them inside watching football. If you must, drive your 'Vette to church and go for a ride afterwards. Of course, if it's a warm, clear day and there is still salt and sand on the roads, it's the devil trying to tempt you.

2. Oil

If you know how oil is created, it really is a miracle that we have this awesome source of energy and lubrication to make our cars go. Millions of years ago, prehistoric plants and animals had to die and decompose in just the right way to be turned into oil. Then, man had to discover it, pump it, refine it, and invent engines that can run on it. Sure, there is science involved, but if any tiny factor had not been right we'd still be driving wood-burning Stanley Steamer Corvettes today.

3. Mountain Passes

If God created the heavens and Earth, he certainly wanted us to honor him by seeing all of his creation. Sure, man made the roads, but without the mountains and canyons that were already there, driving would not be nearly the same fun it is. The whole planet could have been as flat as Kansas, but instead there is all sorts of terrain to see and appreciate. Surely the Lord wants us to seek out and explore this world in a sports car only possible through his inspiration.

4. Human Ingenuity

Whether you believe in evolution or intelligent design in nature, there is no doubt about how our modern technology has come about. An advanced vehicle like the C7 Corvette requires inspiration and ingenuity from literally hundreds of people to get to the stage it is at. It's hard to even know how far back to go. Surely the spark of inspiration that lead to the invention of the wheel, man's mastery of fire, and the ability to smelt and form metal must have come from above. In just the recent history of the Corvette, there are dozens of engineers that moved it from a solid axle, buggy sprung, rough-riding sports car to the modern super car it is today.

5. The Open Road

Everybody knows that Sunday mornings are the best time to drive fast on the open road, because most people are either still in bed or at church. It is almost as if someone planned to give those of us lucky enough to own fast sports cars time to drive them without traffic getting in the way. Don't go doing anything stupid, but rather take the opportunity to enjoy roads you normally don't get a chance to corner at anywhere near the limits. Just be sure to avoid roads leading to and from church, especially your church or you will have some explaining to do.

6. Racing

Most racing and track days take place on the weekend, Sundays in particular. Looking back at history, all sorts of sport and leisure activities were done on Sunday, because that was the only day we did not have to tend the fields. Auto racing followed horse racing and adopted Sunday as well. What better way to glorify God than to celebrate the heights that man has been able to achieve with His divine inspiration? Racing allows us to find the fastest and the best that man and machine can achieve. Pull enough G's and you may black out and see the face of God, or at least think you do.
