6 Things You'll Only Understand If You Love Corvettes

The Corvette has an important place in the automotive world. Owners enjoy performance that meets or exceeds most exotic cars at half or even a quarter of the price. The dual exhaust and eight cylinder engine generate the power and sound so many Corvette owners continue to love. It's America's muscle car with a supercar body.

1. Listen To That Exhaust

The growl and, at full throttle, roar that emits from the Corvettes exhaust pipes is best described when heard in person. Many companies create aftermarket exhaust options to further increase the sound and improve power the Vette will have.

2. Gobs Of Torque

The lightweight body combined with the eight cylinder engine makes for unparalleled acceleration when comparing to 95 percent of other vehicles on the road. Corvette owners love the instant torque available (even at low speeds) that makes passing on the highway a quick and simple task.

3. Eye Popping Colors

Corvette has some of the most eye-catching colors on the market. Bright reds, blues, and yellows can all be had. Chevrolet still offers plenty of other options if a bright hue is not what your after.

4. Check Out My Wheels

It's hard not to stare when a shiny 19" alloy wheel is parked beneath the Corvette. The Corvettes low ride height decreases the gap between the fender and tire for a more aggressive stance. There are not many other vehicles that are equipped with a 315" wide tire straight from the factory. The combination of traction and power cannot be overlooked as that is the only way to put down horsepower to the street.

5. Keep Shifting Gears

Although about half of the Corvettes sold are equipped with automatics, the close ratio Tremec manual transmission is one of the most popular in the world. It combines effortless shifting with shift points that place the Corvettes eight cylinder engine into the heart of the torque curve. Two overdrive ratios are offered for great fuel economy during highway trips.

6. A Great Car For A Great Price

Starting at about $60,000, the Corvette is one of the cheapest options when buying a true sports car. For another $25,000 the Z06 is available. It has been tested to compete with cars like the Nissan GTR ($110,000) and Porsche 911 Turbo S ($190,000).
