1. Yenko S/C Corvette

The Yenko moniker has been synonymous for decades with high revving muscle cars with performance modifications galore. Now with the return of the designation for the Grand Sport, a whole new generation can learn some history about Chevrolet while getting an amazing car to lust over. The special edition new Yenko Grand Sport will be limited to just 50 units and can be ordered straight from a Chevy dealership.

2. Don Yenko

Don Yenko began modifying Chevrolet vehicles way back in 1957 at his dealership in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. Customers could either order high-performance parts or have their whole car modified by mechanics at the shop. The first car that gained notoriety from the Yenko makeover was the 1965 "Stinger" Corvair. These models had different body accessories, engine upgrades, as well as suspension, and transmission.

Yenko passed away in 1987 while bringing a Cessna 210 in for a landing near Charleston, West Virginia. The aircraft came in too hot and skipped across the surface which caused Yenko to lose control and ultimately crash.

Here is Lynn Yenko speaking about her father and the impact he's had on conversions.

3. Modifications

These limited run Grand Sports will include a bevy of mods that took Special Vehicle Engineering six months to develop and implement. Included in the package are a supercharger, a stroker kit, a new sturdier crankshaft, H-beam rods and pistons along with fuel injectors from the Z06. That stroker kit displaces the engine from 6.2 to 6.8 liters and the output of the LT1 has been raised to a Z06 stomping 800 horsepower and 750 lb-ft of torque.

4. Variations

It takes around five days to convert a Grand Sport into a Yenko Corvette and you have the choice of whether you want a coupe or convertible and automatic or 7-speed manual.   It is rather unfortunate and ironic that even though the Yenko Corvette is built in California, it cannot be sold there due to CARB issues.

5. Exterior

Those Yenko logos are all over the place giving anyone who glances at the car a notion alone that something is very different about this Corvette. The striping not only yields new spark to the aesthetic, but harkens back to the original Yenko Camaros that sparked a revolution with enthusiasts.

6. Interior

The interior of the vehicle is largely blacked out with yellow accent stitching an exposed carbon trim with suede microfiber abounding.
