The ZR1 badge was born in 1970, which was a performance package. After making appearances in 1970 and 1971, it didn't resurface back up until we saw it on the King of the Hill ZR1 Corvette, which was equipped with an LT1 engine that developed 370 horsepower.

2. Curves to Die For

From 1990 to 1995, the ZR1 received a motor designed by Lotus. The engine produced approximately 400 horsepower, which was a DOHC 5.7-Liter V8. The evolution of the ZR1 showed constant and tremendous improvement in its performance, making whatever Vette with the ZR1 logo on it a special vehicle right off the bat.

3. The New ZR1 Hits the Track

If you thought the ZR1 was powerful then, the ZR1 logo came with some serious weight from 2009 to 2013. This particular ZR1 had a supercharger, which bumped the horsepower from 400 to 638 horsepower. Corvettes of this era with the ZR1 logo were as powerful as can be, with maximum speed of over 200 mph.

4. What to Expect

Although the complete specifications for the 2018 Corvette ZR1 are vague as of yet, you can expect some serious power with competitors like the Challenger and Charger Hellcat driving on the streets. The 2018 Corvette ZR1 is set to have a 6.2-liter V8 engine, and it should develop upwards of 750 horsepower.

5. Everyone Loves Playing in the Snow

For all Corvette enthusiasts, photos of the new ZR1 brings joy to our hearts. Based on the spy shots of the 2018 Corvette ZR1, it should be offered in a hardtop, as well as convertible options. According to Car and Driver, the new ZR1 is expected to have the optional seven-speed Tremec manual transmission and the eight-speed automatic transmission.

6. Adjustable Rear Wing

From all of the well-taken spy photos of the new ZR1, we can clearly see that the rear wing, or spoiler, is adjustable. The spoiler should be manually adjustable, and it is supposed to improve the aerodynamics tremendously, especially with the help of the splitters and hood vents on the front.

7. Are We There Yet?

The big question is, when can we expect to see this Corvette undressed, and fortunately, the answer is out there. Sources claim the new 2018 Corvette ZR1 should finally make an appearance sometime in August, and it should be available for purchase toward the end of the year. The price is not set yet; however, sources estimated the ZR1 to be upwards of $130,000.
