What Lurks Beneath That Cowl Hood Can Humble A C7 ZR-1

It's no secret that the C5 corvette offers the best bang for the buck and sometimes that bang is loud. As in over 800 horsepower loud. Forum member derekd7987 had an incredible LQ9 powered FRC C5 proving that point. Powered by a centrifugal supercharger, and running on E85, this Corvette throws 830 horsepower to the rear wheels. But the best part? It's all wrapped up in a Light Pewter Metallic Fixed Roof Coupe body, which is definitely something you don't see very often.

Z06 Style Carbon Fiber Fenders Add 1" Of Width

If this car looks a bit more shapely than other C5's that's because it has a body kit. On the rear, you see 2-inch extensions for each fender, on the front, one inch. Side rocker panels are extended too. Wide fenders up front add an extra inch of width and house 275/35-18 Michelin tires. Peek closely and you can see the fender vent above the wheel and also the front lip spoiler. These fenders were left in bare carbon fiber, and we actually like the look a lot.

An LQ9 With A Procharger Is A Perfect Match

Those two-inch rear arches house C6 ZR1 wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires which measure 325/30-19. A C6 ZR1 style rear spoiler plus lots of blacked-out trim really makes this Vette stand out. The theme of this car is pure American horsepower, and this American flag vinyl graphic on top of the car goes great to match the blacked-out theme for the rest of the ride. It's not the only place you'll see Old Glory on this car either.

Here's The Numbers To Back It Up

When it gets down to business, this LQ9 has some serious game. A 408 block is fed E85 through an A&A supercharger. With a pulley size of 3.33 inches, it is making 11 PSI of boost. A forged crank, connecting rods, and pistons allows this car to handle all that extra pressure. After the combustion process, the exhaust exits the LS3 cylinder heads into Kooks 1-7/8" long tube headers.

All The Information You need, When You Need It

Racetronix supplies a good majority of the fueling components for this build, and when it all comes together, here's the result. FIC1000 injectors work with the supercharger to make an impressive 831 horsepower and 710 lb/ft of torque. This setup uses a TSP blower camshaft, LS2 throttle body, LS3 intake, and a 4-inch intake tube.

It's All Business

Making sure all of the modifications are working properly means you get lots of gauges. Boost, fuel pressure, and O2 information are on display via that triple side pod gauge cluster on the A-pillar. Directional control is completed through a 383mm suede steering wheel, and the transmission is shifted through a short shifter and pool ball shifter. The radio has also been upgraded to a double-DIN unit.

Here's The View Most Cars Will Have

With all that power, you'll want to be held in place. a 4 point harness is anchored via a harness bar. The driver and passenger's back-side is held in place through Corbeau A4 suede bucket seats. While not a full-on race setup, we can see why this one is set up for a good compromise between security and ease of use. It's easy to think of a Corvette like this as being fast, but not too many people would assume this car is rocking almost 850 horsepower. Roll up to this thing at night, and this will be the view you'll end up seeing.
