One Last Coach built C6

Back in 2012, when the Bennett ZX-1 was revealed to the world, it was described as a mix between a C6 Corvette and an F-22 Raptor fighter jet. The similarities between the two are apparent especially in some of the form language utilized in the styling of the ZX-1. Most significantly, the forms and lines on the doors resemble those of the limited production Lamborghini Reventon.

The Build

Every Bennett ZX-1 started life as a Corvette. The donor car was then fitted with custom-built body panels, the parts, and the bells and whistles that made it a Bennett. The rear deck lid was modified to a 'double bubble' look, reminiscent of the Kappa platform cars, (Pontiac Solstice / Saturn Sky) giving the custom Targa top a cool sporty look. The look of the read end panel was inspired by the C5.

The Power

The engines on the ZX-1s could vary depending on the donor Corvette. From there, Bennett would modify and upgrade the engines and a whole host of parts would be replaced to give the power plant more performance. The heads, valves, cams, exhaust, and headers would be upgraded. A Procharger supercharger was also added for good measure. This would bring the power output from 400 HP on the stock 6.0-Liter LS2 engine up to a crazy 860 HP. Stopping the power falls on the shoulders of a Brembo Gran Turismo braking kit with 6-piston 14-inchers in the front, and 4-piston 16-inch brakes at the rear.

Interior Options

While the guys at Bennett would normally not redo the interior of these coach built Corvettes, customers did have the ability to order an upgraded interior with special leather and Alcantara panels as well as racing seats.

Limited Production

The production of the custom-built ZX-1 was limited to 200 units, making them very much a rarity in the big world of Corvettes. Not factoring in the cost of the donor Corvette, the Bennett ZX-1 could be ordered for $60,000 for the base model and up to a full $100K for the fully decked out version.

Would You Buy One?

The custom styling of the 860 HP modified Corvettes may not be everyone's cup of tea. But you have to admire the work that has gone into turning these C6 'Vettes into such powerful monsters. Personally, I'm not the biggest fan of the body kit, but you can't argue with 860 beautiful ponies. What is your opinion of these custom Corvettes? Do you find the (re)styling to be a nice take on the C6? Or is the original C6 body too good to be messed with?
