Gem of a Find

In the world of classic Corvettes, 100-point restorations are nothing new. And there's certainly nothing wrong with those beautifully-done cars. But as they say, a car is only original once. And this amazing 1967 Corvette we found at Mecum is easily one of the most original, well-preserved examples of a C2 you'll ever see.

Standing Alone

It's easy to get caught up in seller speak, and the advert for this particular car is clearly over the top. But this Corvette has the goods to back up those lofty claims, as it's the only known Tuxedo Black-on-black '67 427/435 car to ever earn both Bloomington Gold Benchmark and NCRS Top Flight honors.

Baby Me

The real story here, of course, is just how a car like this survives decades yet looks no worse for wear. And it all starts back in Milan, Illinois, where the Corvette was originally purchased. The original owner apparently babied his car over his two years of ownership before selling it to his good friend, who cared for it up until the day he sold it to purchase a '73.

Something Special

The C2 changed hands a couple more times, though it was rarely driven over those years. And when it landed in the hands of its last two owners, both knew that they were in possession of something truly special. Thus, the car has been carefully stored and cared for since 1987, and even today shows only 24,000 original miles on the odometer.

Alarmingly Original

Thus, this Corvette remains in alarmingly original condition. The paint, soft top/hard top, interior, Rally wheels, and even tires are original. Heck, even the shocks, drive belts, spark plug wires, and hoses remain unchanged from what originally came on the car.

Nicely Optioned

This crown jewel of a Corvette came nicely optioned even if you don't consider the highly coveted drivetrain. It's also equipped with the F41 suspension, off-road exhaust, close-ratio 4-speed manual transmission, G81 Positraction, 4.11 gears, AM/FM radio, and Soft Ray tinted glass.

Award Winner

Unsurprisingly, this C2 has filled up the trophy case since it emerged from storage to hit the show circuit. Its many accolades include Bloomington Gold Benchmark certifications in 2003 and 2009, as well as multiple NCRS Top Flight awards.

Reunited and It Feels so Good

When the car won Bloomington Gold in 2003, the then-owner was also able to reunite the Corvette with its original owners for the first time in 30 years. And, of course, thank them for ordering this beauty in the first place.

Ultimate Corvette?

Any black-on-black, 427/435, 4-speed 1967 Corvette is obviously special. But when you throw in the incredibly low mileage, fully documented ownership history, notable awards, and terrific condition this one touts, you've got perhaps the ultimate classic Corvette.

Not Enough

So it's no surprise that bidding on this beautiful C2 was brisk, all the way up to $390,000. But that wasn't enough to pry it from the seller's hands. We certainly can't blame them, and we look forward to seeing just what this amazing car eventually sells for!
