C8 Corvette Z06 Stuns in 0-150-0 MPH Test

Go, Stop, Go

It's not exactly a secret that the C8 Corvette Z06 is an amazing track-focused machine that's designed to carve up corners with the best of them - not to mention accelerate at a tremendously rapid rate. In fact, we've seen the newest Z06 hang with pretty much everything at the track, but recently, it was subjected to a unique test from Car & Driver that once again demonstrates how capable it is - the famed 0-150-0 mile-per-hour test. 

Oldie but Goodie

The last time C&D attempted this particular test was way back in 1998, which was obviously a long time ago. Thus, it gathered up just about every notable performance machine on the market right now and headed up to the Oscoda-Wurtsmith Airport, which is located around three hours north of Detroit, and hit the newly-paved 2.2-mile taxiway to see what these machines were capable of. 

Top Spec

For this test, C&D used a C8 Corvette Z06 with the Z07 package, meaning that this car is the proverbial kind of the pack when it comes to on-track performance. Packing goods like massive 15.7- and 15.4-inch carbon ceramic brakes and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R ZP rubber - coupled with a 5.5-liter V8 cranking out 670 horsepower, one would expect it to perform well in this test, and indeed it did. 

Good Timing

In this case, auto mode provided the best acceleration as the Z06 rocketed down the quarter mile in 11.3 seconds, and the car hit 150 mph with incredible ease - the only problem is trying to time it precisely, as one might imagine, with those digits flying by rather quickly. 

Shocking Result

When it was all said and done, the C8 Corvette Z06 managed to complete this 0-150-0 test in just 22.5 seconds, which is incredible for a number of reasons. The biggest might just be the fact that it slayed the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, which managed the same feat in 24.4 seconds - a truly shocking result, indeed. 

Second Place

The only vehicle that managed a better 0-150-0 time than the C8 Corvette Z06 was the Porsche 911 Turbo S, a car that's obviously quite famous for its ability to accelerate rapidly. That model did it in just 19.3 seconds, but given the Z06's devotion to track duties, the fact that it managed to come that close to the top of this pack is truly impressive, regardless.
