The Custom Shop

This 1961 C1 Corvette was completely restored and modified at The Custom Shop just outside of Chicago. At first glance, you will notice that this C1 is not your average classic Corvette, but with a number of modifications that went in it, it doesn't need to be. For starters, the highly-modified Corvette has no top, so the owner has to have a garage for it. To complement that roadster look, the glass was chopped just three-inches lower, making it even smoother than the original king of cool C1.

Custom Body

Back in 1961, this color probably did not exist, but The Custom Shop decided this C1 needs a Mango Tango paint color. To complement this "crazy" color, the shop sprayed the bumpers satin silver and gave the fenders twin vents. And what better way to make it more roadster-like than to put some realistic flames on the side? The flames are far from cheesy, and the extreme quality work only makes this C1 shine more - just the way it should. The entire body was widened three-inches in the rear.

A Corvette Full of Surprises

The side view mirrors were replaced with custom ones, and these mirrors are now hardly visible inside the windshield unless you're the driver or the passenger. Also, a hidden surprise, a Sony sound system sits under the hard tonneau behind the driver and the passenger seats that connects to two more speakers on the door panels. The door panels feature inserts, which look just like the grille, making the interior match the exterior. The seats, door panels, and dashboard are all leather, and one quick glance will make you want to sit in it very badly.

Engine

The hood was slightly modified to fit the 596 cubic-inch V8 engine, which is force-fed with a Vortech supercharger and has engine fuel management by Holley EFI. The boosted engine provided an insane 1,048-horsepower when it was dyno tested. The custom hood makes it hard to spot the Vortech supercharger, which means people just won't know how fast this C1 really is until they see it flying by them.

Other Modifications

This C1 was completely redone, and not many components are the same as they used to be anymore. The body was modified with brake ducts on the side to keep the brakes cool and the front fenders were trimmed and they now feature smoother curves around the modified headlights. The stock wheels are also long gone, and now the C1 sits on a set of TSW wheels with a C4 Corvette rear suspension system.
