Genovation All Electric C6 Corvette Hits 209 mph in the Mile (Photos)
Would the Corvette be as good if it didn't have a rumbling V8 under the hood? Can batteries and silent electric power spark passion? With more than 200 mph in the stand mile, maybe you could learn to love this electric car.
1. Genovation Cars
Genovation is a company that builds and modifies cars that are environmentally friendly, yet powerful and stylish. The company consists of a team of engineers and car experts, who collaborate with other companies to develop the latest technology in powerful, fast, electric sports cars.
2. Genovation GXE C6 Corvette
The Genovation GXE prototype is based on the Chevrolet Corvette C6, which we all know was both aerodynamic, and slick handling. Genovation repowered this car with two electric motors, which work together fed juice from a 44 kWh electric battery. The two power plants are located along with the batteries, to preserve the perfect 50/50 weight distribution. Finally, the battery allows the car to go for 150 miles on a full charge when driven normally.
3. Performance NUmbers
Most people don't think of performance when they hear the word "electric," however, the GXE performs better than the Corvette it was based on. The two electric motors and the battery work collaboratively to produce 700 horsepower, and 650 pound-feet of torque, and all that torque come in at ZERO rpm. The off the line punch is unbelievable.
4. Standing Mile Record
The GXE in its latest evolution set a record for 209 mph from standing, besting the GXE's last record of 205.6 mph. Johnny Bohmer was the driver responsible for all of the standing mile records and attempts, and as befitting such a high tech project, they all took place at the Kennedy Space Center, Space Shuttle landing strip in Florida.
5. Production Date
The big question is, will this car ever be available for customers? And when would that be? Genovation is promising that you will be able to buy a better version of the GXE, which is based on a C7 Corvette, by 2019. This new version should be able to outperform the prototype, depending on gearing. Genovation will only make a total of 75 Corvettes, which will feature custom interiors, as well as modified exteriors, and of course, a powerful, all-electric powertrain. The bad news, however, is that it will cost $750,000 based on current estimates.
