Hertz turns 100

To commemorate its 100th anniversary, Hertz is teaming up with Chevrolet to offer one hundred high-performance Corvette Z06s for rent at exclusive Hertz locations across the United States. "Hertz is a leader in the car rental industry for delivering a premium experience that is fueled by our longstanding commitment to providing our customers with caring and efficient service, and access to a variety of specialty and top-rated vehicles," said Hertz Senior Vice President of Brand Jayesh Patel. "We're thrilled to continue to delight our customers and build upon our legacy of superior service and unique vehicle offerings with our special Hertz 100th Anniversary Edition Corvette Z06."

Rent-a-Car, Inc.

Rent-a-Car, Inc. was founded in 1918 by Illinois native Walter L. Jacobs. His first rental car operation began with just a dozen Model T Ford cars. But five years later, his fleet had grown to 600 vehicles generating over one million dollars annually.  In 1923 he sold the company to John D. Hertz, owner of Yellow Truck and Coach Manufacturing Company, and it was renamed Hertz Drive-Ur-Self System. General Motors purchased the company three years later and opened its first rental car location at Chicago's Midway Airport in 1932.

Z06 offers performance

As anyone who's been to a Hertz rental location knows, the company offers a variety of vehicle choices to meet most if not all customer needs. The Corvette Z06 joins a lineup of other high-performance cars that you can rent, including the Porsche 911, Cayenne, Macan, Cayman, Mercedes CLA45 AMG, Mercedes G-Series, Tesla, Range Rover, and Nissan GT-R. Hertz announced that the Z06 will be available at airports in the following cities: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Orlando, San Diego, San Francisco, and Tampa.

The Hertz Corporation

John Hertz repurchased the brand from General Motors in 1953 and rebranded it as The Hertz Corporation. It was introduced to the New York Stock Exchange in 1954. During the same year, Hertz continued to grow the company, increasing their fleet of trucks to 15,000 and passenger cars to 12,900. Thirteen years later, Hertz sold the company to UAL Corporation for $587.5 million USD. By that point, Hertz had nearly 400,000 cars and trucks in 120 countries worldwide. A subsidiary of the Ford Motor Company bought Hertz in 1987 for $1.3 billion US.

What you get for the money

This Hertz 100th Anniversary Edition Corvette Z06 is dressed in a classic Corvette yellow with dual black stripes, which mimics Hertz's iconic black and yellow branding. The Vette is powered by a supercharged 6.2 liter-8 engine that produces 650 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque. Behind the wheel, you will find a dynamic 8-speed paddle shift automatic transmission. Underneath are a set of 19-inch front and 20-inch rear, black aluminum wheels with yellow brake calipers.

More features and then the damage

The interior is finished with Competition Sport bucket seats and custom black leather interior accented with yellow stitching. In-car technology features a 10-speaker Bose® audio system and an 8-inch touchscreen Chevrolet infotainment System that includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability.

The price varies by city, but in Las Vegas, you can drive this gorgeous powerhouse of a machine for $249 per day, with taxes and fees raising your out the door cost to $335. But you can't drive more than 75 miles. We hope that's per day.
