Copart

If bidding on cars was like playing a Roulette online, Copart would be your table at the online casino that is car auctions. The slew of twisted metal lurking in between pages is akin to a sci-fi video game than anything else. Hoods ripped halfway in two, smashed in roofs, and cars burned so badly you can’t even recognize them anymore are just the tip of the iceberg. However, if you can find something with a straight frame and reasonable damage, you just might strike project car gold. Or lose all your money.

eBay

When it comes to finding interesting cars online there are few places that top eBay Motors. Any style of the famous LS sports car can be found here from custom built twin turbo setups to vintage C1s and C2s. Anyone who isn’t using this as a tool in their arsenal is missing out on great deals. All kinds of cool builds come up here that people don’t list anywhere else. Some sellers deal exclusively with this platform so you won’t find them in the traditional forum or in a physical auction.

Bringatrailer

One of the crown jewels of the internet this site has made the rounds on countless blogs and websites for years now. Some of the nicest looking Corvettes are auctioned off on this site and you hear about the stories in days to come from servers all over the world. One search yields results from $2,000 all the way up to $80,000 for fully built Grand-Am race cars. This site is a smash hit that will drain your wallet effortlessly.

Public or Private

If you’re serious about buying cars and building them and you like to flip them afterward then a private auction might be the way to go. In major cities like Los Angeles, there are public and private auctions. Going in person to one of these gives you a chance to see the car up close and in person. While pre-screening of a vehicle may occur it is important to go over things yourself and ask as many questions as possible.

Burn Rubber

Whatever route you pick it’s important to keep a constant eye on the car you’re hunting down. Auctions can move very fast and something that was here this morning can be gone by the afternoon. Know the type of Corvette you want to buy and what your intended use is for it. Do your homework. Ask questions. Steer clear of anyone else’s project car that is halfway completed since you will likely spend more time going backward than forward before making actual progress. Great deals are everywhere if you are patient, knowledgeable, and know where to look. Until next time…
