How to Scare a Corvette Owner

Corvette owners love the Corvette because it's a great American sports car that sticks to its roots. Changing the fundamental nature of the car is a sure way to create a scare.

No More Manual Transmission

Sure, some Corvette owners prefer an automatic, but to leave the rest with no other option would be downright upsetting. The Corvette is a driver's car and the clutch pedal plays a large part in that.

Gone is the V8

Maybe the only thing worse than only automatic transmissions would be a 6-cylinder engine. Most Corvette owners would agree that an increase in displacement would be welcomed.

Single exit exhaust

This isn't some economy car! The Corvette should have at least a dual exhaust. Dual exhaust usually equals more sound; something that will always bring a smile to a Corvette owner's face.

Reduce power

As the generations progress the General Motors engineers find ways to make the Corvette have even more horsepower and torque. One way to reduce the excitement on the next generation Corvette would be to reduce power for the sake of fuel economy (for example). Good thing the engineers like horsepower as much as everyone else.

Changing the drivetrain

Corvette owners love the fact that Corvette is rear wheel drive. The drivetrain layout combined with the staggered wheel combo makes for great handling and maneuverability. An all-wheel-drive layout may appeal to some enthusiasts, but would greatly change what makes a Corvette unique. I think we can all be assured we'll never see a front wheel drive Corvette.

Make it a 4 door

Imagine driving down the highway in your new generation 8 Corvette with four other people. Not only would the weight be increased (possibly more than 1,000 pounds), but the handling would diminish. On the bright side, you would most likely have the worlds fastest sedan. I think the engineers will leave that title with the CTS-V.
