Incredible Sub-3,000 Mile '67 Corvette Belongs in a Museum

Daily Slideshow: It isn't often that we advocate not driving a Corvette. But this big block C2 is more of a mantle piece than a weekend cruiser.

Museum Quality

You hear it all the time - people complaining about cars that are rarely driven. Rides treated more like show queens, racking up miles only as they're loaded and unloaded on/off a trailer as they round the show circuit.

We typically pile on these types of rides as well, mainly because cars like vintage Corvettes were built to be driven. But this incredible, original, sub-3,000 mile '67 we spotted over at Mecum Auctions is more of a museum piece than a potential weekend cruiser.

Work of Art

We aren't the only ones calling this cream puff a work of art, either. The vintage 'Vette comes with a "Prove It" history box chock full of documentation, including a report that states "this vehicle belongs in the Smithsonian, not in a car show." And when you start diving into what makes this '67 so special, it's hard to argue with that logic, as much as we want to.

Unrestored and Unmodified

For starters, this might just be the lowest mile C2 we've ever seen, with just 2,996 ticks showing on the odometer. It looks exactly like what a 1967 Corvette looked like when it rolled off the showroom floor because it still remains in exactly that kind of condition. Unrestored and unmodified, save for a few minor repairs completed over the years.

Mostly Unused

The interior sure looks like a brand new car and the seller claims that they don't believe anyone has ever even sat in the passenger seat. The trunk has probably never seen a piece of luggage or a bag of groceries. And in this case at least, it probably never will.

New Standard

This C2 Corvette is such an important piece of history that it's going to serve as a measurement standard for brand new inspection service. Much of that can be attributed to the fact that unlike many old, supposedly low-mile cars, this one has a fully documented history going back to the day it was built.

Big Block Pedigree

This C2 Corvette is no base model, either. Pop the iconic Stinger hood and you'll find the legendary 427 big block underneath, in this case producing an output of 390 hp. Sure, it isn't the most powerful iteration of Corvette for 1967, but it is pretty close. And we doubt you'll find one that's traveled fewer miles than this one.

Spotty Story

The seller doesn't provide the entire story of this fascinating ride, but we can gather a few facts. Reportedly, the original owner is solely responsible for every mile on the odometer. After that, we don't know who came into its possession, when they did, or how it was stored so masterfully.

Paperwork Matters

As you might expect, everything a vintage Corvette collector might want to see is intact on this immaculate example. That includes VIN stamps on the engine, transmission, body, and frame, as well as the original tank sticker, window sticker, order copy, warranty book, and various dealer paperwork.

Options Check

Aside from the engine upgrade, this C2 packs a few other notable options including 3.36 rear gears, tinted glass, telescopic steering column, dual side exhaust, aluminum wheels, and Dayton tires.

Piece of History

Overall, it's hard to think of a vintage Corvette we've seen recently that carries more historical accuracy and prominence than this one. Which sadly means that we actually hope the new owner resists the urge to drive it, instead placing this amazing ride where it belongs - on display in a museum somewhere!
