Power Extraction

While much of the world has moved on to the C8 Corvette, a lot of folks are beginning to make serious power with the last and best C7 - the ZR1. That includes Corvette Forum member Sniper 97, who recently posted the details of his C7 ZR1 build, which just emerged from Katech making some serious power.

Built Bottom End

On the dyno, the ZR1 laid down 979 horsepower at the wheels, which is impressive indeed. The car's powerplant has been gone through thoroughly, of course, starting with a fully built bottom end packing Diamond Competition pistons, Lunati rods, Katech sleeves and studs, and a polished and rebalanced factory crank.

Better Flow

The heads were CNC ported to improve flow, while Katech also performed an intake and exhaust valve job. The cam is a custom ground piece, and as one might imagine, the supercharger has received a little bit of massaging as well, this time in the form of a port job.

Bits and Pieces

A large 112mm throttle body was added next, along with a Griptech upper pulley, ID1050X injectors, a new intake tube and airbox, ARH race headers, Corsa exhaust, and about a thousand other little bits and pieces. The rest of the car was subsequently beefed up to handle this extra power as well.

Even More Capable

Those extras include a Monster triple-disc clutch and DSS axles, to name a couple. The car is on meth as well, and the block has been sleeved for strength. Despite the already impressive dyno results, the owner states that the car is capable of making even more power, upwards of 1,750 ponies, in fact.

Big Plans

The owner is shooting to make around 1,250 hp at the wheels, which is obviously a lot. He's set to add a Magnuson blower and run E85 this coming summer, which should get him there with no issues. We'll certainly be following along to see if he gets there and look forward to his upcoming track time to see what the manual C7 ZR1 can do in the quarter-mile.
