Love Driving? - Consider Moving to These 7 Cities in the New Year
Say goodbye to 2016 and that traffic snarled town where you currently reside. If you are ready to seek new lands with twisty, lightly trafficked roads, then we have some locations that may feel more like home to you and your Corvette.
7. St. Louis, Missouri
There are so many things to do here in St. Louis that it will keep your weekends full for quite a while. From family-oriented places like the Forest Park to something for the big kids at the Anheuser-Busch Brewery, the options are plentiful. The major pull for those who wish to drive their cars as freely as possible is that the extra time you'd spend because of traffic during your commute is on average just 16 minutes! That's the 7th best of any major city in the USA!
6. Grand Rapids, Michigan
If you happen to be into art, then you are in for a treat moving to this place! Some of the most famous sculptures in the world call the Frederik Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids home. At the Grand Rapids Public Museum, visitors see what accomplishments the people of Michigan have made, and you can even walk down a reconstructed street from the 1890s. Gingerman Raceway is just 60 miles away and a great place to drive a Vette. As for getting around town, you'll be happy to know that the extra time you'd spend in traffic due to congestion each year is just 53 hours, the 6nd lowest anywhere in the US. Think of all the things you'll be doing with your life with all that extra time.
5. Cleveland, Ohio
Cleveland has many others things to offer besides seeing King James and the Cavaliers whenever you want to. There is a great public market that is called the West Side, which is actually Cleveland's oldest one, where you can find warm fresh pastries, ready-to-eat meals, and newly-picked fruits. Nelson Ledges is less than an hour away, and the famed Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course is just 90 minutes. If you hate traffic, then you're in luck, as the extra time daily you'll spend looking at a sea of brake lights is just 14 minutes.
4. Indianapolis, Indiana
Indianapolis has so many things for you to do, on foot or in a vehicle, that it's kind of nutty to think about everything. Lockerbie Square is a must drive for anyone who would enjoy a scenic urban environment in the oldest surviving neighborhood in the city. The mix of new and old architecture will be a treat for anyone who is an architecture or history fan. And of course, do we even have to mention the Indianapolis Motor Speedway? Here is a link to all of the best drive routes in Indiana if anyone is passing through or makes the move.
3. Omaha, Nebraska
We know Nebraska just doesn't jump out at people when they're thinking of somewhere to move to, but there are a lot of things here that very well may pull you in. You wouldn't think midwestern Omaha would be known for having a first class zoo that has not only the world's largest indoor desert, but also North America's largest indoor rainforest. Nebraska has many tricks up its sleeve for those who come to visit or move here. If you want to get somewhere in a hurry then you'll be happy to know that the traffic time is 13 minutes and Loess Hills, one of the best driving roads they offer, is just outside of the city. Does Warren Buffet owe the success of Berkshire Hathaway to this unassuming city? Give Omaha a try and you may find yourself pleasantly surprised.
2. Dayton, Ohio
Just ten extra minutes in traffic on average every day? Uh, hell yeah! The city of Dayton has a crazy great traffic time, a National Air Force Museum, a historical park, and for automotive nuts the Packard Museum which houses many of these groundbreaking twentieth-century luxury cars. Hop in your Corvette and check out the Historic National Road which is the first road commissioned by Congress, way back in 1806, and goes from Cumberland, Maryland to Vandalia, Illinois. Not far outside of town you'll find the Kil-Kare dragstrip and circle track, with weekly motorsports events, including street car drags.
1. Knoxville, Tennessee
At number one on our list is Knoxville, with an average traffic time of just 11 minutes wasted sitting idle in your Vette each day. That kind of time is probably just what the doctor ordered, as it will give you enough of a rest from all of the country road speeding you'll be doing in this beautiful wide open location. If you don't believe me just pop on over to here and see a snapshot from each of the 10 best scenic roads Tennessee calls their own. And if you like drinking whiskey, they state has a whole bunch of craft distilleries to visit and sample their wares (designate a driver).
