Daily Slideshow: New Corvette Rumored to Output 1,000 HP

It’s going to happen at some point: the Z06 Corvette will crack 1,000 factory horsepower. Just how soon is the only thing anyone is left to speculate on. That could change with the C8…

Internet Encyclopedia

“If the internet says it then it must be true” is probably the worst mantra anyone can live by, but it’s not all that ridiculous when it comes to Corvettes. If there is anything we can say is true, it’s the trend of Z06s making more and more power every year. A simple look back in time at the data would confirm this...

Time lapse

From 1953 to 1970 (a span of just 17 years) the Corvette’s horsepower essentially doubled from 150 HP to approximately 300 BHP. In 1990 the ZR1 made just under 400 HP and today it makes over 755 BHP. We’re in an arms race of horsepower where Chevy is slugging it out with some of the top sports cars around and everyone is going for the jugular. It’s only a matter of time.

Form of forced induction

The real question is how will this 1,000 HP engine be producing power. Speculation hasn’t been made, but it would be shocking to see a supercharged engine from a manufacturer (with a warranty) doing these numbers with instantaneous throttle response. If possible, this would put the C8 in such rarified air we would likely be looking at a future classic. A production car outputting those numbers with that type of throttle response would be mind-blowing.

How fast?

A 1,000 HP factory Z06 with launch control and all the other perks of modern algorithms would likely see this car running in the mid to high 9-second range on street tires. Lap time around the Nürburgring would likely be under 7 minutes and top speed would likely be north of 235 mph. All of this is speculation based only on what cars in the past have done.

Pricing and purpose

A Vette with this level of power would likely start around $150,000 which would be a bargain compared to anything else in the marketplace. Even at $200,000, this never before seen level of power in the Chevy thoroughbred would be the bargain of the century. Can you say Veyron killer? Fingers crossed for the next generation of ZR1.
