Define Rare?

Rare is a relative term, one that lacks an exact definition. Is a car with a production run of less than 10,000 rare? How about 100? While we can argue this until the cows come home (literally), we'd say that a car with a production run of just 2,025 units is rare. But that isn't the only low number associated with this C5 Corvette Z06 Commemorative Edition that recently crossed the block at Mecum.

Like New

You certainly don't see these Commemorative Editions every day, that's for sure. And rarely one as nice as this. Like many cars that are purposely purchased as investments, it presents essentially as new. As it should with that few miles on the odometer.

Signs of Wear

The black interior is absolutely spotless, with nary a sign that anyone's flanks have ever graced the driver's seat. Though, obviously they have. At least for a few minutes.

Factory Fresh

Pop the hood, and it's the same story there. You won't find any dirt or road grime here. Just a factory fresh LS6 that likely still produces every one of its original 405 ponies.

Goodies Galore

Of course, this rare special edition Corvette still comes with all the stuff it did when new. That includes all the books, full records of service, the build sheet, and various sales brochures.

Underappreciated?

Despite all of its attributes, however, this special 'Vette only nabbed a selling price of $36,300 at auction. Which is somewhat surprising given its heritage.

Upgraded Looks

In all fairness, the Commemorative Edition was only an appearance package that added nothing in the way of performance. On the outside, its Le Mans blue paint is accented by white stripes with red pinstriping, along with various badges.

Little Things

Inside, you'll find a special Shale-colored interior with embroidered headrests. And that's pretty much it.

Celebrate Success

But there are two very important reasons this special Corvette exists. The biggest, of course, is the fact that Chevrolet wanted to celebrate the Corvette's back-to-back class victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Numbers Game

Secondly, the Corvette essentially also marks the end of the line for the C5. Which makes it worth celebrating, we'd say. Now if only this Corvette's numbers game extended to what lies under the hood or in regards to the suspension, maybe collectors would pay more attention to it today!
