Woah... is that what I think it is?!

For three days at the beginning of the month of March all generations of Corvette converge on the Sebring International Raceway for some eardrum piercing racing. The Sportscar Vintage Racing Association has a motto that encapsulates every model of Corvette that showed up at the event, “Some People Collect Art... We Race It.” The thing is that this event is isn't just open to Corvettes and that's actually where the real fun comes in at as you'll be treated to seeing classic Vettes go head to head with the likes of Porsche, Datsun, Lotus, and Triumph. Above is the new C7 GT3 that makes its US debut in the GT race at the St. Petersburg Grand Prix.

Ageless beauty

The 3.74-mile circuit has 17 turns and lots of space in which to fight it out for position supremacy. As for getting close to the action, there is space for cars, campers, trucks, and motorhomes to park along the track. The three-day event is also very easy on the bank account as if you prepared adequately with provisions the only time you'll be opening up your wallet at the event is when you pay the $35.00 admission fee. If you do not own a camper or have no desire to sleep in a tent there is a hotel on the property.

Can't go wrong with either

This gathering differs from other racing events in that your admission ticket allows access to the paddocks and pit road. There you can take a gander at some of the well-heeled participants that have come with million dollar motorhomes and custom trailers that can contain million dollar race cars. There is a great air of camaraderie in the paddock and everyone seems to be very warm and welcoming. Nobody cares about who has the biggest bank account as they are all there just to bond over the joy of racing and the love of going fast. Al Unser Jr, the grand marshal for this year and two-time Indy Car champ, could be seen talking with fans and posing for photos!

Cars, cars everywhere

For modern racing fans there are the International GT and Trans-Am racing competitions. In the modern Trans-Am series, you'll get to see Corvettes have it out against Camaros, Mustangs, and Challengers. Make no mistake as these cars are the real deal with custom tube frames and fiberglass bodies. The average horsepower ratings in the series are about 850-875. Also in the Trans-Am series is the TA2 class which is made for pony cars with a lower horsepower limit. TA3 is made for racecars that have had a production model life. TA4 sees competitors behind the wheels of cars like the BMW M3, Porsche, C5-C7 Vettes, Mustangs, and Challengers.

Vette overload!

If you burn out on watching cars fly around a track, there are other things to spend your time doing such as checking out the generations upon generations of stationary Corvettes. On top of those, there are the contemporaries on hand also in the likes of Opels, Porsche, Studebakers and hot rods. If you want something vastly different from automotive overload then you'll be happy to see that vintage motorcycles are on hand for perusal, too. There really is something for almost everyone at the SVRA Sebring event.
