The Owner That Was Buried With His Corvette (Photos)
We all love the legendary Corvettes, but some people just love them more than others. Check out the story of this man that was buried with his beloved Vette.
1. George Swanson
George Swanson was a former U.S. Army Sergeant. He served in World War ll, and shortly after his retirement, he became a local beer distributor in Pennsylvania. Swanson passed away on March 31st, 1994. However, far before his death, he planned exactly how he wanted to be laid to rest.
2. Brush Creek Cemetery
Brush Creek Cemetery is located not too far outside of Pittsburgh. Inside this peaceful place, George made a large purchase of 12 burial plots. He then made an arrangement with Brush Creek Cemetery to spend eternity with his beloved car at the time of his passing.
3. Cemetery Backing Out of the Deal
Right after Swanson's death, Brush Creek Cemetery tried to back out on the agreement claiming that burying a vehicle in their cemetery is considered vandalism. It took a few weeks of hard negotiation between the family and the cemetery before they allowed George to spend forever alongside his car.
4. 1984 Corvette
After finally agreeing to allow the 1984 Corvette to be buried in George's plots the Cemetary requested that all of the fluids had to be completely drained out of the vehicle. This was their attempt to reduce pollution and protect the environment from any harmful effects that may be caused. And last but not least, the powers that be mandated that the burial had to be done privately so that no one else could see exactly what was going on.
5. The Burial
After weeks of going back and forth, Caroline, George Swanson's wife, took the Corvette with Swanson's ashes sitting happily in the front seat to the Brush Creek Cemetery. A gathering of 50 people showed up to pay their respects one last time to a passionate man, as the crane slowly lowered the car. George is now and forever sitting in the driver seat of his favorite car for the rest of eternity. Exactly the way he wanted.
