Yet Another C8 Corvette Fell Off a Lift

We can't even begin to imagine the anger and anguish this owner must've felt seeing their C8 like this.

Another One

It wasn't too terribly long ago that a C8 Corvette fell off a lift, causing quite the stir around the web. Sure, plenty of cars fall off lifts every day, but this was a brand new Corvette. We can only imagine the heartache this incident caused the owner of the shiny new sports car, and now, he isn't the only one to suffer this very preventable accident, as yet another C8 has apparently fallen victim to operator error. The photos of the carnage were posted by Corvette Forum member Vman21C8 in this thread.

Weight Distribution

Why this continues to happen is anyone's guess, but it most likely has something to do with the fact that the C8 is a mid-engine car. Perhaps the shops that are lifting these things up just aren't used to that sort of weight distribution, which skews toward the rear in a 40/60 split, compared to 50/50ish for the outgoing C7.

Improper Lift

Regardless, the mechanic that lifted up this Rapid Blue C8 obviously didn't get the memo, and the car took the brunt of that mistake. It's likely that he didn't use the proper lift points on the bottom of the car, which are placed much further back than they are on the C7, causing the car to fall backward once it was in the air.

Major Damage

The damage the C8 suffered as a result of this negligence is rather extensive. The fiberglass body of the car is heavily damaged, with a chunk torn off the side in both the door and side scoop area. It's unclear if any underbody damage was suffered, or if anyone was injured when the Corvette fell, but we certainly hope that isn't the case.

Total Loss?

As another forum member pointed out, it appears that the belly pan has been removed from the car and is lying on the floor as well. It's highly likely that this C8 is damaged beyond repair, depending on what sort of problems lie underneath.

Deja Vu

This incident is very similar to what we saw happen to the red C8 that fell of a lift last summer at a Jacksonville, Florida Chevrolet dealership. That car also suffered heavy body damage on the sides as the rear of the car came crashing down after improper lift points were used.

Take Heed

After that first accident, we certainly didn't think this could happen again, and yet, here we are. With any luck, dealers and mechanics around the globe will see these incidents and learn from them. The C8's owner's manual clearly shows the proper lift points for the car, and it's obviously important that we pay attention to that little detail.
