Daytona 500 From a Corvette Fan's Perspective

Chevrolet Invited Corvette Forum Member Mike Furman to the Daytona 500. Here Are Some of His Amazing Photos

Mike Furman is one of the best Chevrolet salesmen in the country. So Chevrolet invited Furman to celebrate his killer 2016 sales record with five days in Florida for the “Elite Dealers Conference.” And that included a VIP ticket to Sunday’s season-opening NASCAR race, the Daytona 500.

Before the race though, on Thursday evening, IndyCar champion Helio Castroneves spoke to the Elite Dealers. And Chevrolet was keen to show off some of their other motorsport activities. NASCAR, IndyCar, IMSA, Le Mans, and drag racing were well represented, as were a few of their new street-car products. But we’re mostly interested in that lovely Corvette C7.R racer.

On Friday evening, the actual awards ceremony took place at the Hard Rock Cafe. Chevrolet racer and seven-time NASCAR champion, Jimmie Johnson, was on hand to pass out the trophies and shake hands. And later in the night, country music star Luke Bryan even gave a private concert.

On race day, Furman and the rest of Chevy’s VIPs were treated to a police escort to the track. Furman snapped a few pictures of cars inside the “Chevrolet Injector,” which is what they call the Chevy-sponsored entrance to the new stadium-style seating on the front stretch. Later, he sat in on a Q&A session with Jamie McMurray and Kasey Kahne.

When the gates were opened to spectators, Furman spent some time walking up the banking. Then he checked out the new “Chevrolet Daytona Experience” center in the infield, where buyers will soon be able to take delivery of their new Chevrolets, apparently. Then Furman checked out Jamie McMurray’s pit stall on pit road.

And finally, it was race time!

To see more (SO MANY MORE!) photos from Furman’s time at Daytona, check out his thread on the forum. While you’re there, weigh in on what you thought about Daytona this year. And maybe give Furman a big huge “thanks” for posting such cool pictures.
